Sunny Mehta said in his first media appearance as Devils GM that he wants to be competitive this year and for the future. He also said that he wants to acquire as much depth as possible and he’s done just that
Trading for Lombardi (23) and Evangelista (24)
Trading away a 35 year old Jacob Markstrom who’s on a decline and giving Nico Daws a season to show what he’s got
Getting HIGH value back for Nemec who just wasn’t a fit here
Acquiring enough depth for the Devils to run out 5 lines
And not even just all that… He’s signed/traded for real AHL talent for Utica, getting 4-5 guys who were just at a point per game in the minors

Yea… and the Winnipeg Jets who are the WORST sports market in sports is any better
Devils sell out games… Jets don’t

"It means no one knows who you are."
Hayes gives his blunt opinion on an interesting question to Connor Hellebuyck...

Well I mean if Poirier isn’t listed, I’d assume Hellebuyck will at least be the backup for tomorrows game vs Dallas
Status quo for #NJDevils today at practice... I guess except for that last line in the notebook....
(Just for the official record, the order of Hellebuyck/Allen has nothing to do with starting vs. backup. That's all still TBD)

Quinn Hughes, asked today about his contract situation w the #MnWild ….
“Wouldn’t be surprised if something happens soon.”
This is as forward-looking as I believe Hughes’ comments have been so far during this process.
Mercer is not a Seth Jarvis or Logan Stankoven type of player
I believe Connor Hellebuyck first game with the Devils will be on October 28th vs Colorado
Back to back, he’s ready, he’s been practicing all summer and leading up to today, on the ice 5/6 times a week, facing shots against NHL players, he was on the ice earlier today in Jersey before the game, Don said on the broadcast that he will practice with the team before they head out on the road and will travel with them.
