I was cutting firewood on this beautiful Sunday late afternoon today and it felt great to just have some time to myself and have the earbuds in and listen to some music. Have the chainsaw going - picking up heavy pieces of wood - cutting them and moving them… Across the street one of my daughters was shooting shots on the basketball hoop and it was really nice to see her doing that - and for a second I thought - I should go over there and play some bball with her but I really was enjoying having time to myself cutting firewood And the next song that comes on is a song I had never heard before the song attached down here. It’s by Conor Darvid and it is titled: Dads with their Daughters. I went over to rebound her basketball shots and pass them to her for the next 15 minutes or so…😊🏀⛹️‍♀️ God willing, I will be able to cut firewood for maybe 30-40 more years, but she’ll probably only be shooting basketballs in the driveway for three or four more years… youtu.be/p8KyEOaz5gU?is=UyJH…

Just had an exciting and fun set of interactions here at Café fuel in downtown Jackson, Michigan. I paid for my coffee with bitcoin on the Square point of sale terminal. Went through without a hitch and was instantly approved via the Bitcoin lightning network. The college aged lady working said that was the first time she seen someone do that - or maybe the second time - and she asked me “what is bitcoin“? So I start giving her a very high level explanation and after about 15-30 seconds or so I look behind me and there’s someone else in line who is another business owner from downtown Jackson and he seemed pretty curious about what I’m talking about regarding bitcoin. I asked him if he wants to just go ahead in line and make his order and he says “no keep talking - I wanna hear” so we talk about bitcoin for a couple more seconds and then I say “hey let me buy your coffee with bitcoin” Of course, he says sure no problem and he watches me open up my River wallet on my phone, and then I send bitcoin via the QR code on the Square point-of-sale terminal and it immediately says approved and now the lady cashier has seen 2 bitcoin transactions in the past two or three minutes and she’s even more interested, and then the owner of the café walks up and I know her a little bit too, and I just started talking to all three of these people about bitcoin and I explain how the owner of the café can be much better off if she accepted bitcoin because she doesn’t have to pay the credit card fees and the other business owner who’s behind me in line - he also accepts credit cards for his biz - and I tell them that if you accept bitcoin you might be able to get paid $10,000 or $10 million and it might cost one or two dollars in the bitcoin transaction fee and obviously they don’t really understand what I’m saying, but they like the idea of that and then I tell them and when you receive that bitcoin there’s no charge back options for the sender. There’s no daddy Visa or daddy Mastercard the customer can contact and complain. It’s just done. It’s like someone paid you in cash or someone paid you in gold but instead they paid you in digital gold / bitcoin… Anyway, it was really nice to have these discussions and I feel like I haven’t had these kind of real discussions in quite a while, but it felt great and I ended up sending a River link to the businessman who I was talking to and he seemed really excited and I’m looking forward to hearing more from him after he gets the ball rolling. @River @Leishman @btcisbetterorg – at Jackson, MI

@natbrunell After buying another cup of coffee with Bitcoin yesterday morning, I then dropped off a copy of your book Bitcoin is for Everyone to the ladies at the coffee shop. Hopefully they read it and want to talk some more!

We had our friends from church over today after the morning Bible study for our annual October chili luncheon / get together. This is a very casual event that we host in our garage and today we were blessed to have beautiful weather, 65° and sunny, so many people enjoyed their meal on the driveway outside in the sunshine. Some of my best memories are from family parties in the garage at my grandpa and grandma Shirkey‘s house in Vandercook Lake, Michigan in the 1980’s. I just really have a lot of great memories of those times where it was super chill and nothing fancy just some folding tables and some folding chairs and food laid out on my grandpa’s workbenches and an old fridge with some Faygo red pop in it and maybe some beers for the adults and they were just great times and every time we host one of these garage parties it gives me a lot of good memories of my grandma and grandpa Shirkey.

A cool thing happened today in my little segment of the real estate investing world. A MHP operator with whom I experienced a successful investment with from about 2017 to 2020 contacted me because they seek a short-term loan to do some capex and mobile home park infill on a portfolio they are selling and turns out the Group they’re selling the portfolio to is another mobile home park operator that I have great respect for (and with whom I would like to invest with one day) and it just seems like a really cool spot to be in where I get to loan money to a group that I trust from prior experience / prior positive outcomes and the takeout on the loan is that other group that I really respect is gonna execute the Purchase and sale agreement and it just seems like a neat place to be and it’s also nice to make a little money while helping out some professional friends.

When putting our youngest to bed, we often sing a song we named “the meatball song” it is sort of a derivation of that song, you know… “On top of old Smoky, all covered with cheese…” It’s sort of a nonsense song. Tonight as I was leaving her room, she said something like: “I wish we had a meatball tree, because then whenever we wanted a meatball, we could just go grab one off of the tree…” That would be pretty cool! – at Michigan, USA

Doing the quiet essential American family trip this summer with our daughters who are between the ages of 9 to 15. Yellowstone national park and Glacier national park. Last night I told the girls hey, I’m gonna wake you up at 4:30 AM and we’re gonna hit the road from the hotel by 5 AM and then we’re gonna get to Old Faithful around 6 AM and we’re gonna beat the crowds and hopefully we’ll get a good spot and we’ll get a really good nice view of the geyser… Gotta beat the crowds, right? Well, everything went as planned and right as we parked and I walked over to see if I could figure out when the geyser erupted last and I left the family in the vehicle to start having some yogurt for breakfast, I start hearing old faithful start hissing and fussing and sure enough she starts shooting water and gases up into the air… So even though we got there, and Old Faithful went off within five minutes of us arriving, only I saw it and my girls missed it… So we just walked around and enjoyed the rest of the place and then about 75 minutes later, old, faithful, faithfully, came to life again and we got to see her in all her Glory. Funny thing was there was basically nobody in the parking lot when we arrived at 6 AM and it was still a ghost town for the next hour or so…so I guess we didn’t need to get out of bed at 4:30 in the morning… – at Montana, USA
