Nigeria is steadily losing control over large parts of its own territory. When more than 300 schoolgirls are abducted in the middle of the night from a Catholic boarding school, this is not an isolated incident — it is state failure in its purest form. The government stands by while armed gangs, militias, and terror groups dominate entire regions. Children are treated like war trophies. It is a moral and political collapse, plain and simple. And this is exactly where the international community — especially the United States — needs to wake up. Not as a new colonial force, but as the only global power capable of applying real pressure: diplomatic, economic, and security-related. Washington intervenes in every geopolitical sideshow, yet looks away when mass abductions of children happen in Africa. That is indefensible. When a state can no longer protect its own children, international involvement becomes necessary: protection programs, intelligence cooperation, counter-terror operations, and strict conditions on development funds. Looking away is not an option — not for Nigeria, and not for the United States. What is happening in Nigeria is not “ordinary crime” — it is targeted terror against Christians. For years, radical groups have attacked churches, schools, boarding houses, and entire villages. They kidnap children, kill priests, and burn down places of worship. These victims are not chosen at random — the strategy is clear: intimidation, displacement, and domination. And the Nigerian state allows it to happen. It cannot control the security situation, stays silent, downplays events, or reacts far too late. For the families on the ground, it doesn’t matter — they live in a permanent state of emergency. This is exactly why international pressure is needed now — and yes, the United States must finally step up. If minorities are being systematically terrorized anywhere in the world, Washington cannot look the other way. No funding, no cooperation, no military aid until Nigeria proves it is able — and willing — to protect its Christian population. This is a test of the credibility of Western foreign policy as a whole: human rights are either universal — or they mean nothing.
