I sold a chair to a dude on marketplace and I got an invite to his (and his partner's) housewarming party, is this how you make friends in your 30s?

Not a designer and not a fan of Gen AI, but it's kinda cool that I can conceptualize a design, draw bad vector art in sketch and clean it up with my agent. It's brought back my love for prototyping design things without feeling like a robot did all the creative work

Throw all the tokens at figuring out how to improve performance. Turns out, gzip.
We keep improving performance across Claude, and you may have noticed it starts responding sooner! Claude Code now gzips the conversation it sends on every turn, so it reaches the model faster. Cloud sessions also start up as soon as you start typing.

When I was more junior, I used to go work for companies that sounded cool. Now, I care more about who I work with and if I can trust them

Fascinating that this article makes no gender references yet everyone in the reply threads assume the OpenAI engineers are dudes and the "seducer spies" are women lol
OPENAI to EMPLOYEES: If someone is trying to seduce you, first consider — could they be a spy??? OpenAI is warning its employees about honeypot spies and strangers with children in playgrounds ... a very fun one with @georgia_wells and @MeghanBobrowsky: wsj.com/tech/ai/ai-companies…

This is suuuuuper cool but not the death of Git by any means. Git still wins on being local-first and offline, Scion only makes sense if you're orchestrating swarms of agents against a monorepo which I imagine most of us aren't doing
New on our Engineering blog: Creating in-house source control. In May, we merged around 2,500 code changes per day. In September, we merged more than 30,000 per day. As a result, we became bottlenecked by developer infrastructure built for human (rather than agent) scale. Here, we share how we built a new version control system—and fully migrated our monorepo from git—in five months: anthropic.com/engineering/re…

What confs are folks going to these days? Preferably a product agnostic conf for general indie web/tech minded folk that is also reasonably priced (< 500USD)

Maybe personal agents aren't for me bc I love to procrastinate on work with the minutiae of booking a flight or calling to make a reservation
dots demo. Now... with better WiFi.

I think the real reason a visual UI is better is because there are breadcrumbs and actions feel less consequential
Am I the only one who thinks web interface for things like booking a flight or hotel or dinner reservation is ideal way to accomplish those tasks? It's already convenient, easy, visually quite nice. Why do I want to do this with voice or chat interface? Feels like a downgrade tbh

Wonder how @patrickc and @collision feel about @WorksInProgMag staff gleefully dissecting women’s bodies with sex dolls in the next column. I don’t mind what a person does in their free time but entire magazine staff amplifying this kind of work is sad. I really love @stripepress and @WorksInProgMag . This behavior makes me sad because it is squarely in bad taste.

Easy: just ask AI to summarize session transcripts. The ouroboros of agents consuming agents. :chefkiss:
it's basically impossible for someone to just "show you their prompt" now, because everything is about references, skills and examples I often ask my agent to look at 3 other repos I've made first, search the web for references, use other AI APIs, etc.

I'm team show your work
my rule for sharing Claude output (PRs, artifacts, messages) is that I only do it if I would be happy sharing the prompts

Folks in my neighborhood have been using gen AI for lost pet posters, stoop sale signs and block party announcements (which used to be so creative and original) and it honestly makes me want to burn it all to the ground
Are the normies in your life using AI past being a glorified search engine? Do you have any friends/family that aren't devs/spreadsheet warriors that use agents? What for?

Ok yay but we all know how AWS treats open source as an avenue for revenue
Today, @ducklabs_com is joining @awscloud. The move is expected to be completed by early September. Joining AWS gives DuckLabs the resources and reach to bring DuckDB, DuckLake, and the Quack protocol to many more developers and organizations – and to pursue ideas at a scale that would have been difficult for us to reach alone. The DuckLabs team will remain together in Amsterdam and will continue working for the Duck Stack community as an AWS subsidiary. Most importantly, #DuckDB and the other open source components of the Duck Stack will remain free and open source under the MIT license, with the non-profit DuckDB Foundation continuing its stewardship of the projects. This is a significant moment for DuckLabs and the Duck Stack community. It marks the end of one chapter that we are immensely proud of, and the beginning of another that we believe will take DuckDB much further. Read the full announcement here: ducklabs.com/ducklabs-is-joi… #AWS

I’m just a girl who wants my agent to shit talk my other agent when there’s an active 529 and pick up the slack so I don’t have to

Today, key parts of the EU AI Act go into effect for companies whose AI systems produce output used in the EU. If your company is building AI agents, you need to understand these rules. I broke down what teams need to know and what they should do next. aaif.io/blog/the-eu-ai-act-a…
