Shanaya, a born Punekar, thinks Pune is her grandparents’ private property and that her family somehow built the city.
But here’s the difference.
Radhika came from outside, built Radhika Masale from scratch, created her own identity and made Pune her home through her work.
Meanwhile, Shanaya seems to think that being born in Pune gives her ownership over the city’s legacy.
D riding Gurunath might get you money, Shanaya, but it won’t give you an identity.
You don’t build a city by claiming ownership over it. You build it by contributing something to it.
From tomorrow until next weekend, if a Punekar blames being stuck in traffic for arriving late, they wld be lying. No traffic jams to hide behind, no excuses to offer. Pune is about to relive its old glory as a liveable city. Roads moving, traffic flowing .. room to breathe.
And credit where it’s due. A little thank you to the Temp Punekars for giving the rest of us this much needed reprieve.
