But what happens at the individual level? Does a prolonged period of unemployment leave a lasting impact? We find that individuals experiencing unemployment undergo significant reductions in mobility that last and worsen over time!

Introducing a new methodology to infer unemployment during economic shocks, we find that during the pandemic unemployed individuals experience larger reductions in "extra-work" mobility wrt employed individuals. Over time, the differences between these two groups tend to increase
