The UK had 104,000 fewer businesses at the start of 2026 than a year earlier. SMEs account for 99.9% of British businesses. Our SME report sets out reforms to business rates, access to finance, late payments and energy costs to help British businesses grow. prosperuk.com/helping_britis…

It’s the 5th of November. So what do we think of that most infamous of plotters Guy Fawkes. While nearly half of Brits are neutral/no opinion on Fawkes among those who do there are partisan splits. Reform 2024 voters have the most positive net view, Tory voters the most negative

Today’s Budget must be judged against two tests: will it deliver stronger economic growth, and will it put the public finances on a sustainable footing? There are welcome steps on business rates and devolution, but downgraded growth forecasts and reduced fiscal headroom raise serious questions.

Latest @OBR_UK forecast endorses findings of @Prosper_UK_ Housing Commission. It depressingly predicts 190,000 fewer additions to the housing stock price over the forecast period due to "weak demand, rising material costs and the impact of regulatory changes"

If we want the UK economy to grow, we need to help our small businesses grow. Our latest report sets out so many practical proposals, from unlocking investment and reforming business rates to tackling late payments. With the Budget approaching, SMEs must be part of the growth conversation.

This is a prime example of why this policy is so wrong headed. It is going to drive lifelong Conservatives out of the party, and the party will be the poorer for it. No previous leader has behaved in this way bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cq78…

£50 million was reportedly spent balancing the electricity grid yesterday. Meanwhile, the UK has needed emergency power from France, struggled to move electricity from north to south and faced repeated forecasting errors. thetimes.com/article/7254757…

Fixing the UK’s housing crisis requires radical reform, not tinkering around the edges. Our Housing Commission, chaired by @GavinBarwell, has set out a comprehensive plan to get Britain building again, make homes more affordable and restore the dream of homeownership. Just 15% of businesses are confident about hiring, according to new CBI research. Rising employment costs are making it harder for firms to create jobs, particularly for young people. You cannot deliver growth and opportunity while making it increasingly expensive to employ people. Ahead of the Budget, we need a serious conversation about how to reduce the barriers facing SMEs and give them the confidence to invest, recruit and grow. thisismoney.co.uk/money/mark…

Since 2020, regulation, policy and tax have added over £38,000 to the cost of building an average new home. The result? Developments that once made financial sense are now being abandoned. We’ve set out how to unlock housebuilding and deliver the homes the UK needs. thetimes.com/life-style/prop…

Absolutely right. Andrew Bowie has been making this case consistently. Our recent energy plan makes the same argument: approve Rosebank and Jackdaw, back the North Sea and strengthen the UK’s energy security. prosperuk.com/the_price_of_p…

All true, and good to hear you say it so clearly... ...but when you and others were cheerleading for Trump pre 2024, some of us warned Ukraine would pay a price
It is sickening that the USA is now lifting sanctions on Russian fuel, and transparently ridiculous to blame Ukraine for the spike in prices that obviously began with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Putin is murdering innocent Ukrainian civilians every day. The Ukrainians are fighting for their lives. And yet the White House is apparently determined to force American drivers to bankroll Putin’s slaughter. It won’t work and I doubt it will make much difference to the price of fuel. If we want Russian oil and gas back on the world market then let’s end this war - with a free, sovereign and independent Ukraine.
