Uganda remains Ebola-free, with no confirmed cases recorded since the country declared the Bundibugyo virus disease outbreak over on July 28, 2026, Minister of Health Dr. Chris Baryomunsi has announced.
Addressing the media today, Dr. Baryomunsi confirmed that all 60 contacts linked to the recent Ebola case involving a Kenyan traveller have completed the mandatory 21-day monitoring period without developing symptoms and have been discharged.
He reassured the public that Kasese has no confirmed Ebola cases and has recorded no deaths from the disease, while emphasizing that vigilance remains critical as transmission continues in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The Ministry has intensified screening at border points and Entebbe International Airport, strengthened community surveillance and expanded cross-border support, including establishing three treatment units in the DRC with a combined capacity of 240 beds.
Dr. Baryomunsi called for continued public cooperation with health measures and stronger regional collaboration to contain Ebola at its source and protect communities from further spread.
For information or to report suspected cases, call the Ministry of Health toll-free hotline on 0800-100-066, send an alert SMS to 6767, or use U-Report on 8500. #OpenGovUg

We made destination marketing experiential at Magical Kenya. Bringing the REAL Uganda to life through our cultures, cuisines, people, and authentic experiences.
And this is just the beginning! We’re taking this energy to expos across the world, giving Uganda the visibility it deserves.
Our goal? To have every corner of the internet buzzing with Uganda content until the world can’t help but #ExploreUganda the Pearl of Africa.

Every Independence Day is another reminder that we are free to explore, experience and fall in love with Uganda.
And this Independence weekend, I have one simple reminder: Uganda is the Pearl of Africa, and there is so much waiting for you to discover!
From the world’s largest population of mountain gorillas to the primate capital of the world, from over 50 diverse tribes and rich cultural traditions to the source of the mighty River Nile, Uganda is a destination full of extraordinary experiences.
And then there is Kampala, our ever-buzzing, ever-blazing city, where the energy, warmth, food, music and nightlife keep you wanting more!
Beyond these are breathtaking landscapes, beautiful lakes, incredible wildlife, welcoming communities and countless hidden gems waiting to be explored.
This Independence weekend, do more than celebrate Uganda. Experience Uganda.
Take that road trip. Visit that national park. Explore a new town. Taste a local dish. Learn a new cultural story. Support a local tourism business.
We have a beautiful country worth discovering, and the adventure doesn’t always have to begin far from home.
Happy Independence Day, Uganda.

5. Value your services
Nairobi reminded me that services have value and people are willing to pay for them.
I left Magical Kenya having learnt, benchmarked and unlearnt so much. Most importantly, my mind was buzzing with fresh ideas.

One thing I value about Tourism & Trade Expos is the “SEMINAR COMPONENT
The exhibition floor visibly shows you what the sector offers
BUT
The conversations on the panels help you understand where the sector is going.

I again travelled for #MKTE2026, with one major goal: to learn how Kenya runs its tourism business.
Kenya’s marketing aggression & business approach offer valuable lessons that i can never get tired of benchmarking, to find new ways to grow my career in Uganda’s tourism sector.

Here were my takeaways;
1. Infrastructure matters
Kenya’s expanding road network reminded me that tourism growth requires more than marketing.
Better roads mean easier access to attractions, shorter travel times, smoother tour logistics and potentially safer journeys.

Why every tourism business should be in Kasese for the #RwenzoriMarathon:
Brand visibility
Traveller engagement
Industry networking
International media exposure
Most importantly, being part of Uganda’s growing sports tourism movement.
Don’t watch the movement. Be part of it.

Tourism does more than attract visitors to the Rwenzori region. It strengthens local livelihoods, creates business opportunities, supports conservation efforts, and shines a spotlight on the area’s rich culture and spectacular natural beauty.
The #TuskerLiteRwenzoriMarathon is helping drive that transformation. By bringing thousands of runners and supporters to Kasese, the event is introducing more people to the unique experiences, landscapes, and communities that define the Rwenzori region.
This is tourism making a lasting difference, long after the finish line.

Did you know the real purpose of the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon goes far beyond the finish line?
It’s about inspiring thousands of people to discover Uganda’s breathtaking landscapes, vibrant cultures, and unforgettable experiences.

The symbolism in taking fallen artists to the National Theatre for respect is quite literal. As a prodigy of the arts in my primary and secondary schools, participating in final competitions at the National Theatre, was a win, irrespective of the final position. Namasagali College, which under Father D. Grimes used to annually stage plays there was the envy of us highly artistic students.
While watching any performances there, however sad they may be, is supposed to be entertaining, that is as far as it goes, in the past, and in words. The National Theatre is now a symbol of decay and a high mark of how far the mighty can fall.
Grand shows and huge crowds are far between, I was there to watch Andrew Lloyd Webbers’ “The Phantom of the Opera,” highly talented performers, and a great performance they put on, but even then, the mould, the decay, and lingering fear of picking a bedbug on the way home, totally undermined the enjoyment.
It starts at the gate, a run-down relic, to the potholed parking lot-a cash cow to whoever contracted to manage it, then to the poorly curated art gallery. The crowning mood killer is the reception and box office area, with no proper seats for waiting. Inside the theatre, a feeling that a curtain will fall or a theatre prop will break and injure an actor or spectator is always in the air. All these, paint a perfect and complete picture of the desolation Smaug.
So when the departed lay cold in their gilded caskets with their turf on life support and the arts now a thing for beggars, it is a fitting send-off and mourning moment for what was and what may never again be.

The engagement provided an opportunity to share final preparations and highlight the marathon’s growing contribution to Uganda’s sports tourism. With participants expected from over 41 nations and global attention turning to the Rwenzori region, the event presents a powerful opportunity to showcase Kasese’s landscapes, culture, cuisine and hospitality.
“It excites us that, for the first time, the marathon will be featured by @WorldAthletics. For over 5 hours, the world will be focused on the uniqueness of the Rwenzori region and with Uganda welcoming participants from over 41 nations, I encourage everyone to go beyond Kasese, experience the food and culture, and explore more of Uganda.”- @JulzKagwa,CEO, Uganda Tourism Board.
