My mom, an educated woman and a medical doctor who has traveled the world, immediately assumed it was revenge by remnants of the regime because we voted against them. Autocracies change your psyche. The state becomes an actor that persecutes you, takes from you and watches you. This fear and distrust make it harder for people to connect and organize collectively against the regime. Russia is Serbia multiplied a hundredfold.
