The future of #ArtificialIntelligence is not pre-determined. As a technology developed by human beings, its future depends on the choices we make. We therefore have the responsibility to guide, change and, when necessary, reject its applications. A reliable system that serves the human person is of greater value than one that is exceptionally powerful but whose consequences cannot be adequately foreseen or controlled.

the past week has been unnecessarily hectic and i have done a horrendous job at promoting thus far but this book i have spent the last couple years writing is finally out in the world and i am deeply horrified but proud of it. worked so hard on being as humbly sober, fair, and honest as humanly possible.
it is a polemic, historical, and theoretical. flawed, maybe even limited—but deeply curious. and rooted in an utter devotion to wanting to advance contemporary struggle beyond its severely underdeveloped and embryonic stage in which we’ve found it (but trying to perform an autopsy for the world we have inhabited).
very excited to be in dialogue with so many brilliant folks, to hear criticisms and takedowns, in the coming months!!!
Throughout the history of the United States, Black revolution has been sedated, diverted and neutralised.
Taming the Revolution by @queersocialism is out now!

On the left is a 3D perspective view of the book cover for Taming the Revolution: White Power and the Fear of Black Freedom by Joshua Briond, featuring a black-and-white photograph of raised fists against a yellow header. On the right, white text reads: “This insightful book offers a clarity that is desperately needed in these times” — Joy James, editor of Beyond Cop Cities. Fox: Why are you here this morning?
Trump rally attendee: Well, in the late 70s, I was a little too young to go to South America for the Jonestown Massacre. But this is as close as I'll ever get, so that's why I'm here. There's nothing like seeing a cult right up front.

alec absolutely obliterating the geese magazine/dsa right electoral strategy in one paragraph holy shit
I have just published a piece that is very important to me. It's about why so many "progressives" and people on "the left" are lying to us right now about crime, safety, and repression, and what we should be doing instead. equalityalec.substack.com/p/…

Listen, Of course i support the people crushing machine. I'm a people crusher. And im also a people crushing abolitionist. I believe we can fix the people crushing machine so that it still does its job without harming any crushable people. Its just common sense.
Is L.A. mayoral candidate Nithya Raman a capitalist?
"I'm a capitalist and I'm also a Democratic Socialist...we need to make sure capitalism works without harm to workers... to poor people."
She says the DSA is a "big tent" but she disagrees with members who call to abolish police, prisons and the Senate.

I’m grieving the deaths of the two Israeli soldiers killed in Hebron today, and praying for the full & speedy recovery of those who were injured.
I’ve spoken out loudly this week against Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, which imposes violence on a daily basis, and I will continue to do so. But violence is not the path to ending it — or to achieving safety, freedom, and peace for both Palestinians and Israelis.
And neither is collective punishment or ethnic cleansing of an entire neighborhood, or punishing millions of people for the criminal act of two, which Netanyahu has promised to enact in response.
I’ve seen a lot this week and I’ll have more to say about in the coming days (I’m on my way home shortly). There is a path to ending this excruciating cycle of violence. It starts by insisting that every life is sacred, that everyone is created in God’s image.
For now: Shabbat Shalom, to everyone who believes in the hard work of making peace & justice a reality, for everyone.

Please, I urge the world to take this tweet seriously.
A new famine is literally being created in Gaza. Free food distribution has almost completely stopped, major aid organizations have suspended their services, and now the World Food Programme, a key source of flour and canned food for hundreds of thousands of people here, has announced the suspension of its assistance.
For over a week, trucks carrying vegetables, fruit, and frozen food have also been prevented from entering Gaza.
Food supplies are shrinking, everything entering Gaza is being tightly controlled, and food queues are growing frighteningly long.
We are already witnessing the signs of another hunger catastrophe. Families are losing their food sources one by one. Please, don't wait until people are dying of hunger again before you act. The world must act now.

Yeah ill say im not particularly ticked that Larry david is anti dsa, that totally tracks and ive had people make these kind of dismissive, unengaged jokes about my politics since 2013. Whats disappointing is that he thinks this kind of article is necessary now
Something getting lost in all the talk about Larry David’s essay is its reference to Jonathan Swift’s “A Modest Proposal,” one of the most famous works of political satire ever written.
Published anonymously in 1729 when Ireland was under British rule, the essay deadpan suggests that the Irish poor sell their babies to the rich as food, mocking elites who already treated them as disposable.
Larry David uses the same format, but while Swift made the cruelty of the powerful his target, David - a Clinton/Biden liberal - seems to be mocking what he sees as the absurdity of democratic socialist politics.
Genuinely bizarre to see such an unfunny political jab.

At no point in the movie does Elizabeth Holmes reckon with how anyone other than her was harmed by the downfall of Theranos.
Amanda Seyfried earnestly reckons with the consequences of her actions even when she is (correctly) pretty sure she didn’t do anything wrong.

the fact that this video was filmed in Jabalia (northern Gaza) makes it a billion times worse. this is the area that held a heavy percentage of the genocide casualties and carries tens of thousands of unrecovered bodies. this is a crime scene being erased in front of our eyes.
Some IDF renovation work going on in Rafah, Gaza.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This video was not filmed in Rafah. It was filmed in Jabalia.

horror movie of the year. more honest about the nature of filmmaking and art and portrayal and language and love and perception than just about anything i’ve ever seen and instantly one of the most monumental documentaries of the century
there's moments so jaw-droppingly shocking in this documentary that i was convinced i had lost my grip on reality. breezes through its 3 hour runtime like its nothing—i could've watched nine hours without breaking a sweat. a maddening stroke of genius

a masterwork in deceit, manipulation, and the overall deconstruction of the interactions that allow them to flourish. this is a work of evil, and my new favorite film of the year. i was left speechless an hour in, and couldn’t believe my eyes when the final shot rolled in. unreal

the fact you think there’s a significant amount of what you’re critiquing tells me you’re victim of algorithmic manipulation. it is such a non-issue. you can enjoy your treats and symbols as much as you like, no one can stopping you.
you are angry about something you have entirely conjured up in your head according to what you’re being fed online (because it makes you angry, forces you to react, which then reproduces itself), and overdetermined how much of a nuisance it is on public life, or your own personal life.
when in fact, you are the one who could always just log off. and POOF, no more nuisance. most of the country is just like you, want to shut off their brains and leave the politicking to whomever they put into office. alleged debbie downers, who dare not be seduced by the slopulist of the day, like the big meanie queersocialism hardly even exists outside of this place!
