Replacing therapists with programs is essentially a swap of religions (as therapy ~= confession). I, for one, welcome our new AI overlords.
Visited a rare books store and found the text that coined the word "autism" (Eugen Bleuler - "Dementia Praecox", 1911). It was $75, too much for me, but I discreetly snapped photos of the relevant pages (which I'd previously tried to find online and failed; German only). Enjoy!

Wanted to signal boost the blogging platform / notes app I've been using for several years, @standardnotes. The text editor is great, and the blogging platform looks like this: listed.to/@simpolism

I just signed up for 5 years of Standard Notes pro plan. I've already been using it for 2 years and figured I should support them. Plus, they're raising their prices next week and I wanted to get in before that happens. Recommended if you like the platform!

A major sleight-of-hand here is the refusal to clarify the "agent" of selection: "eugenics" presupposes a "top-down" administration of life based on a single set of criteria, whereas common practices such as infanticide were "bottom-up": the family made the decision themselves.

The authors impute a naturalized, medical logic onto the practice of exogamy, which was never justified for "eugenic" reasons (cf. Freud's discussion in "Totem and Taboo" of exogamy in blood-unrelated tribes). Through this "error", they betray their underlying ethical stance.

The real question of genetic modification is not "what reasons are universally permissible?" so much as "who gets to decide?" (everyone in this debate's implicit answer: "the state"). And suddenly, much to everyone's dismay, the "science" becomes political again.
