Joe Opio: “We have never had a suspended sentence in football. That’s never happened before. Cristiano Ronaldo is the first recipient of a suspended sentence.
And then guess what? The one game he missed was against what team? Armenia.
And so he came because FIFA went like, ‘We can’t lose Ronaldo for the first two games.’”
Trevor Noah: “You are not wrong, actually. Oh, that’s a good… that’s a good argument.”
Joe Opio: “Imagine if Messi had received that preferential treatment.
I’ll go back to another… I’ll take you years back, 2013. The Ballon d’Or, because sometimes supporters go like: ‘Oh, Messi is favored for the Ballon d’Or.’
The Ballon d’Or voting was supposed to be closed November 15th. Ronaldo scores a hat-trick against Sweden, November 19th. FIFA extends the Ballon d’Or for the first and last time to November 29th and goes like, ‘You can change your results to reflect recent performances.’

Yesterday, I was interviewed on Diamond TV about the petition by some LAZ members to get a position from the Association on constitutiobal presidential terms limits in light of calls from some members of Parliament and some sectors of the public to remove term limits.
I discussed the recommendations by previous constitutional review commissions following wide consultations with citizens across Zambia who overwhelmingly chose to maintain the the maximum of two five-year presidential terms limits.
I also stated why presidential terms limits are important for the people as well as the Republican President.

If you are a Zedian you need to read this report because it shows that we are our own worst enemy....Zambians are complicit in the impoverishment of their fellow citizens. This took me a number of day to create because I did not want leave out any details and this is why it is about 50 mins long. If you can watch a 1 hr Nigerian movie or a movie on Netfix, you owe it to yourself to watch this.
I think it is immoral to talk Abt term limits when the country has so many issues like high cost of living. Improve citizens life give them manner and see how the quickly support u. Otherwise we need 2 terms reduced to 4urs like america.

About three years ago, I reviewed the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA). It was one of the most corrupt agencies I have ever seen…and I have seen many!
The corruption was brazen. It wasn’t sophisticated at all. You could see it from miles away. They were still using emergency COVID procurement protocols FOUR years after COVID ended! The head of the Zambian Procurement Agency was sacked and even the head of the Zambian Anti-Corruption Agency was removed for corruption and the board was dissolved.
Donors paid for most medicines and medical supplies in Zambia, and citizens receive all medicines free of charge.
Because Zambian public servants are constitutionally allowed to run ANY business on the side, many public servants owned pharmacies. So, the drugs were never available in public pharmacies but you could just cross the road and get them in a private pharmacy owned by a public servant…for a fee, of course. Even when you label the drugs as free and not for sale, they simply removed them from the packs and sold them in jars.
We recommended changing the Constitution to remove that incentive for public servants, changing the procurement regime, tracking the medicines from the ports all the way through the stores to the dispensaries, etc, but senior politicians were alleged to be benefiting directly from the fraud and there was no political will to end it.
So, we recommended a reset of the entire agency. From the law setting it up, to its management and governance, to its staffing, to its funding.
Now, following elections about a month ago, the new Minister has sacked ALL the staff in ZAMMSA and is starting the agency afresh!
When you do good reform work, your recommendations may not be implemented immediately but time does not diminish their relevance. One day, somebody will pick it up and implement it.
