During the conflict, Turkey was bringing electricity and natural gas to northern Syria, ultimately powering millions during the conflict. In 2020, local officials in northern Syria even adopted the Turkish lira, as it helped stabilize the local economy amid the economic crisis unfolding within Assad’s Syria.
That is not the definition of occupation, that is transnational state-building.
The definition of occupation would be checkpoints and the grabbing of land of a sovereign state which is what Isreal is currently doing in Syria.
Turkey has the audacity to criticize Israel. But what are the facts on the ground?
Thousands of Turkish soldiers. Dozens of military bases and outposts across Syria, Iraq and Cyprus.
While Erdogan’s military aggression knows no borders, and Turkey occupies 36% of Cyprus, 5% of Syria and 2,000 km² of Iraq.
Israel temporarily controls merely 0.1% of Syria - a buffer zone to protect its citizens from proven security threats.
