Marfa reflections (1/2) Man there is much to say. Before I visited, I had my apprehensions. A town in the middle of the desert? The flight time. The cost. It was a lot. And the current image of the States isn't exactly.. welcoming. Let's put it like that. Yet. Once @GTSewell invited me I pulled the trigger. Hearing what he had put on the line inspired me. We had never met. And honestly, the only reason we did is because he put out a call for fellow artists to join him on his journey. And man am I glad I did. Once I arrived in this small oasis I was stunned by its beauty. The drive there a landscape of windswept plains and distant hills. They say everything is bigger in Texas. And let me tell you. It's true. The sky was breathtaking. As I wandered the town, I felt somewhat lonely. I have to be honest with you guys. Most events for me have been lonely. As much as I love connecting. Even though I'd meet people, it always felt like I was fighting to be included. A strange thing to say, as many people seem to know me. It made me doubt myself at times. I half expected Marfa to be the same. Then the Aussies showed up. And from that moment onward, the weekend began. Not just the most fun fucking people. But genuinely a good group. It's not about transactions. It's not "I try to climb a status ladder" or "I will talk to them to pitch or sell". It's "Where are you coming from? Tell me more about you, your practice, what's your story?" The gallery was set up with a different vision. Possibly in the most indie cryptoart style, aka the best vision. Maximalism in art. No white wall. Art. Art. Art. From all over. I opted for showing my most recent piece, where @Abelwares and @JLArtsphere made a massive difference in my presentation. They helped me build the frame for the piece on the spot. A massive thanks to these legends. @A_Giant_Swan, an absolutely amazing artist, was my neighbor on the wall and we quickly hit it off. Good laughs throughout the weekend. (Many more amazing neighbours, but too many to name) Marfa is different from every event I've been to in this space. Not only because of its people. But because of its layout. An event like this could never happen in NYC or Singapore. Not because the cities are not dope. But because they are too large to be intimate. The journey here acts as a filter, as @seanbonner said to me. Genuine people make their way here. @LeValleyKelly @deltasauce @natealex (and again, so many more, efteling people, skater man pls comment) To finally see each other after many years of hiding behind the screen. Conversations hit an emotional snare for me, as with @MattKaneArtist and @MathieuFrance, who both gave me insightful advice and thoughts to ponder. The art was the conversation. But the connection felt here was genuine. Real. Something I have found hard to come by. I realised that this online world we live in is hardly a representation of us. I think this algorithm divides us. But this event has shown me what actually matters in this space. And let me tell you, it's not the floor price. It's not the number go up. It's not the supply. The demand. It's not the rarity. It's not even the art. Part 2 below.

One year ago I launched Fragments, right as the market crashed. One year older. I feel like I’ve teleported through time. I spent most of my 20s building the lonely road. I lived through one of the biggest crypto cycles of the century, and then launched the moment it all fell apart. So I left. I traveled for three and a half months and explored the world I’d put aside for art. I wasn’t looking for food. I was looking for substance: culture, sounds, smells. I came back understanding my position better than ever. An artist inside a very niche industry, with a view of it that few people get. And here’s the part I didn’t expect: the substance I went looking for is what this update is made of. It has been in the making since 2022, when voting began as a way to give holders something to do: unlock sneak peeks, decide which Breezes were rare and which weren’t. I never got to bring the full vision to life. Once I started building the MidnightBreeze website, I knew I had to. Artcards. Holographic foils. A cinema view for your Breezes. Yes, it’s a bit “Pokémon”. But it isn’t a trading card game. It’s the essence of one: collecting through effort, collecting with purpose, and a true way to show your dedication. Late night stop at GoodMorning Market It is my most ambitious artwork to date. A 1 of 1 made to live both physically and on-chain. This year has been about exploring this bridge: finding the connection between two worlds. My biggest issue to this day with physical art and NFTs has been the disconnect. These works are not actually connected. Visually, sure. But not actually connected. I first experienced this in early 2021, when I bought my Beeple and it came with a physical. I later sold the NFT for 89 ETH. And the physical? It is still in my basement. Hanko certified means one thing: the physical verification of trust. In Japan, a hanko is a personal seal. It stands in for your signature on contracts, at the bank and on official papers. Pressing it says: this is me, and I stand behind this. In the Netherlands, we sealed with wax. In the Golden Age, letters, contracts and trade documents were closed with a seal pressed into warm wax: a mark of who sent it, and of care. The two countries share an old bridge. For more than two hundred years, the Dutch were the only Europeans allowed to trade with Japan, through the small island of Dejima in Nagasaki. Goods, books and ideas crossed between the two through that one door. My Hanko brings these traditions together. A Japanese seal, pressed into Dutch wax, by hand. No two are exactly alike. Shoutout to @baiweiart for making mine. In a Hanko certified artwork, the wax seal holds a cryptographic chip. Once the contract is live, it connects the artwork to the chain: scan it, and it shows its on-chain proof of provenance. See the preview: tapping the Hanko on Lawson Shimoda, an ink study from the Konbini series. Inspired by the CryptoPunks contract, I went to work on an entire marketplace inside the contract. It will let the holder of the artwork tap directly into the Dutchtide market, and find and engage with fellow collectors. The contract holds a fully trustless art market inside of it, built so the NFT can only be sold if the physical comes with it. Over the past six months I have refined and tested this system, so that two people can buy and sell through the chain without ever touching crypto. While still being fully on-chain. Euros, dollars, ETH: they will be interchangeable. Holders will be able to buy more Dutchtide art pieces through their own market, or sell through it. The artwork's animated counterpart will be inscribed on-chain. For me, NFTs have always been about doing things physical art cannot, and animation with sound is that exact idea. Linking and inscribing its digital counterpart using @lphaCentauriKid's inscription standard is something I am incredibly excited about. The contract goes live before the 1/1 changes hands, and the inscription follows with it. I am proud to say collectors can already find their entire Dutchtide collection on their collector profile on my website. The 1/1 is available on enquiry. It will set a precedent for me as an artist, with my most ambitious work to date. Stay breezy. Stay bullish🍃
