Stanford just put its robot autonomy course materials online, free! 📚 Principles of Robot Autonomy, by Daniele Gammelli, Joseph Lorenzetti, Katie Luo, Gioele Zardini and @drmapavone. It grew out of the course series Pavone has taught at Stanford since 2017. Nineteen chapters, around 520 pages, four parts: → motion planning and control: dynamics, trajectory optimisation, closed-loop tracking, planning → perception: sensors, camera models and calibration, stereo and SfM, classical methods, then deep architectures and detection → localisation and mapping: filtering, state estimation, localisation, SLAM, sensor fusion → decision making: state machines, dynamic programming, RL, imitation learning Look at that order. Imitation learning is chapter 19. It arrives after you have modelled the dynamics, built an observer and done SLAM. Class :D Plenty of people entering robotics in 2026 start at a VLA and never learn what an observer is. That works fine until the policy misbehaves and there’s no model underneath to debug against. It ships with video lectures, Jupyter exercises, slides for instructors, and an AI assistant that answers questions against the book. ⚠️ It's is a proper course. Linear algebra, probability and ODEs assumed. Not a weekend read. 🔗 Access free here: porabook.com/ ~~  ♻️ Join the weekly robotics newsletter, and never miss any news → ziegler.substack.com

UC Berkeley researchers found that just 10 minutes of relying on an AI tool to solve math and reasoning problems significantly affected people's ability to focus and persist with difficult tasks — highlighting the importance of designing AI tools that build on human abilities rather than replace them. bit.ly/3UiDYh5

The fastest way to accelerate EV adoption? Make charging simple. ⚡ Germany offers an interesting lesson: turn existing curbs into EV charging points instead of waiting years to build entirely new infrastructure. Simplicity and deployment speed matter more than grand announcements. Three lessons for other countries: - Repurpose what already exists. Use existing parking spaces, curbs and urban infrastructure. - Deploy first, scale fast. Start with practical pilots, learn, and expand quickly. - Make adoption effortless. When charging becomes as convenient as parking, EV ownership becomes far more attractive. Countries don’t need to reinvent the wheel. They need to remove friction, simplify regulations and execute at scale. The winners in the EV transition won’t necessarily be those with the most ambitious targets. They’ll be the ones who make the transition easiest for ordinary people. Less bureaucracy. More infrastructure. Faster deployment. That’s how you accelerate adoption. 🚗⚡
