Our New Orleans chapter is distributing food to unhoused comrades in #hurricanida. Many are w/out an evacuation plan. We offered rides to the shelter; most chose to ride out the storm outside rather than in shelters that split them from loved ones, pets and needed medications

At final tally, you all have helped us raise $9,587 for @southern_solid. Y'all are incredible. Thank you for sticking with us through this crazy run and for giving to such a great cause.
Southern Solidarity is an organization that resolutely politicizes mutual aid both in theory and practice -- our own @JasmineR_Araujo wrote about our ongoing work and philosophy for @TheFunambulist_, available in beautiful print! instagram.com/p/CXeVcF0rUi0/…
In the latest issue of @TheFunambulist_ , Southern Solidarity's @JasmineR_Araujo writes about our efforts in emancipatory mutual aid. It's a beautiful magazine committed to liberation: mottodistribution.com/shop/t…
As @JasmineR_Araujo writes, "Leveraging our power against systems of oppression need not manifest in ways that are legible to conventional forms of organising"...
"de-arresting, reclaiming housing w/out appealing to authorities, or blocking housing court so that evictions are brought to a halt, are effective ruptures that can and should be part of any mutual aid toolbox. this is @southern_solid's view as we distribute food, clothes & info.

Meanwhile in Kenosha County, the state is still fighting the court ruling that Chrystul Kizer, who, at age 17 killed her trafficker, should be allowed to argue an affirmative defense. #FreeChrystulKizer #AbolishTheState

Really beautiful piece by @FrancesMadeson up @therealnews today, looking at how solidarity economy/mutual aid organizers from @CooperationJXN , @southern_solid, & Coop Nola helped fill the tragic voids left by official relief in the wake of Hurricane Ida therealnews.com/hurricane-id…

When news coverage of the latest climate disaster ends, most people forget about the unhoused.
But needs don't disappear when cameras leave.
Groups like @southern_solid are pushing for the one thing they know will make a difference: affordable housing.
