Sewage spilling into the River Thames in London fell about 86% in the super sewer's first full year. 🌊 A river once declared biologically dead keeps coming back. (Thames Water's first Tideway report; figures are modelled.)

India added about 1,180 km² of new mangrove forest in 40 years, more than any other country. 🌱 Worldwide, mangroves have turned from loss to a small net gain, new Global Mangrove Watch satellite maps show (via Mongabay).

Off Mozambique, forests that drowned about 5,000 years ago have turned into reefs. Rising seas flooded the old coast, waves stripped away the sand, and the peat left behind is now as full of life as a coral reef.

At Abric Romàní near Barcelona, minerals hardened around Neanderthal wood and kept its exact shape for 40,000 to 62,000 years. Researchers found spears, digging sticks, shelter poles and a club with a carved handle.

Off Kekova, on Turkey's southern coast, archaeologist Hakan Öniz found a wreck whose clay jars date to around 2700 to 2400 BC, the age of the pyramids at Giza. If the dating holds up in peer review, it's about 300 years older than the record holder.

A new paper in Nature Physics proves that at the quantum scale there's a limit on how fast something can settle to the temperature around it. No amount of energy or control can push past it. The limit is tied to Planck's constant.

ESA's Euclid telescope was built to photograph distant galaxies, and it just found its first comet: C/2026 S1 (Euclid), about 1.3 billion km away, arcing over the top of the solar system instead of travelling in the same plane as the planets.

WISE 0855, the coldest known brown dwarf, is just 7.5 light-years away. Astronomers at the University of Arizona watched it with the James Webb Space Telescope for 11 hours and saw its water clouds thicken and thin as it turned. It has weather.

Astronomers using China's FAST radio telescope found a cloud of hydrogen about 500,000 times the mass of the Sun, floating alone in space with no stars in it at all. It could be a "dark galaxy" that never made a single star. It's a preprint, so it still has to be checked.

So this past week I was brought back to my high school days with the Death Note... Remember that fad? And I just had to laugh... imagine if there was an inverted version, "Life Note!": the woman whose name is written in this note will immaculately conceive in 40 seconds 😂

I have no idea where to post this but I have to share it somewhere 🤣 Or "Love Note": The people whose names are written in this book shall fall in love. Instead of a murder plot, L would be hunting down cupid, or trying to curb overpopulation 😂

I feel so polarized here…. Where are the birds? 🐦 do i call this X now? But we all know it as twitter, and that has a soul, because birds have souls… Where is the soul of X?

Birds have souls, humans have souls. If we identify X with a soul, we might considered that X is the feminine chromosome. So X should be a bit more feminine, right? Maybe that’s the problem. The logo is too sharp, too masculine. It should be like a 💋 instead @elonmusk

Oops, not to “should” on anyone, whoops 😅 it *could* be though? Possibily maybe?
