Really important point about Spotify demonetization for small indie labels.

Replying to @future_of_music
i think it's terrible for independent labels. losing that small amount of income per track across thousands of tracks in a large label catalogue will amount to a few hundred dollars less per month, which small labels like ours can't afford to lose

This is insane. Looks like Facebook did a man-in-the-middle attack using their VPN service to steal data from other apps. This enabled them to see all SSL traffic, by creating a fake digital certificate to impersonate Snapchat, YouTube, Amazon etc. Seriously?

If you needed yet another reason not to trust VPN providers or proxy services... Here Facebook partnered with a bunch of companies to have root certificates installed on people's phones so they could intercept other app's traffic. storage.courtlistener.com/re…

🧵Just about two weeks ago, @wamu885's leaders killed @DCist and laid off 15 reporters, producers, editors, and other staff. The challenges of local media, though, go beyond D.C.: @WBUR is potentially facing its own layoffs. But the contrast is *how* things are unfolding there.

For one of my last stories for @wamu885/@dcist, I want to go as hyper-local as D.C. politics gets and look at the good, the bad, and the future of Advisory Neighborhood Commissions in the city. Have you served as an ANC? Please share your thoughts: forms.gle/FFHLSUHYDdGNjqs18

It was just around 50 years ago that D.C.'s Advisory Neighborhood Commissions, the city's most hyper-local form of government, were created. Since then, they've alternately been celebrated as...

(Falling to my knees, begging, pleading) Please. Folks, seriously. PLEASE. Do not - and I can’t emphasize this enough - set the state on fire this weekend.

My latest for @scifri: I talked to three artists about how they see generative AI impacting their work. And for the editorial art, we wanted to try something a little different. (spoiler: it wasn’t made by an AI, but it requires some explanation). 🧵sciencefriday.com/segments/a…
