Q: How much harm does BS from Rogan et al do? A: A ton. And it is immediate. Gibson's off-the-rails promotion of ivermectin as a cure for cancer (legitimized by Rogan) resulted in a spike in searching. This likely included many cancer patients. Cancer misinformation is cruel

Now this clown says ivermectin is a treatment for pneumothorax? As a pulmonologist, that's insane. I can't believe I have to say this but, if you have a pneumothorax don't take horse paste! I'd say this guy should lose his medical license, except he already did, back in 2017.

During Joe Rogan’s podcast on January 9, Mel Gibson promoted drugs that are not scientifically proven cancer treatments. Misinformation on cancer treatment is dangerous, cruel, irresponsible and gives false hope to people with cancer and their loved ones. Researchers around the world dedicate their lives to uncovering the best cancer treatments. Surgery, radiation and approved cancer drugs like chemotherapy are safe and proven to stop cancer cells from growing and spreading. Choosing to use an alternative therapy can have serious health effects, such as the cancer spreading or getting worse. The Canadian Cancer Society provides credible, independent, trusted information on cancer treatments, in easy-to-understand language. You can find this at cancer.ca or and we are also available on chat or by calling 1-888-939-3333.

When anyone searches for information on cancer treatment options - you shouldn't see ads for scientifically unsupported treatment, or ads targeting people who have exhausted their treatment options. Our new study (unfortunately) finds this is occurring misinforeview.hks.harvard.ed…

Thanks for your continued interest in our work! Just wanted to clarify a few things: it is published, it is peer-reviewed, and it doesn't claim CTax has no impact on food prices. Thanks again -- and have a great day! :)

Everyone knows you can drink an alcoholic beverage & be fine. Everyone knows you can’t do that with rubbing or wood alcohol. Why? They’re different chemicals. Ethanol ≠ isopropanol ≠ methanol. One alcohol is not the same as others. Use this logic for ALL chemicals. 1/

5 basic principles of science that you know. Explained using photos of cats. 1. Correlation is not causation. Just because the cat is sitting in the hole doesn’t mean it caused the incident. In science, we must separate coincidence from causality.

In these sanewashing times, there is a strange, revisionist spin being normalized: the idea that, in the US, the COVID public health measures were TOO aggressive. Reality: U.S. performed poorly. Consider @UCSF’s Case Study of just the FIRST YEAR of pandemic (pre-vaccine). If US adopted a more comprehensive approach “a staggering 428,000 American lives would have been saved” (globalhealthsciences.ucsf.ed…). In general, the public health measures saved lives. Yes, yes, yes... ALL agree we need to learn from what worked, what didn't, and consider how we can do better. And we need to consider the (short & long-term) costs & benefits of interventions. But it was an unprecedented situation. The current data messy. More research needed. Memories fade. And incredible how fast political spin can shift perceptions of reality, even when it involves the deaths of family, friends, colleagues… Examples of other relevant & interesting reviews, studies, etc: - eurekalert.org/news-releases… - royalsociety.org/-/media/pol… - jamanetwork.com/journals/jam… - thelancet.com/article/S0140-… - pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3634… - mcmasterforum.org/find-globa… - thelancet.com/journals/lanwp… - thelancet.com/action/showPdf… - pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3902… - canada.ca/en/public-health/s… - nature.com/articles/s41467-0… - nature.com/articles/s41598-0… - science.org/doi/10.1126/scia… - hsph.harvard.edu/news/press-… - healthaffairs.org/doi/10.137… - bma.org.uk/advice-and-suppor… who.int/activities/preparing… cc @gorskon @picardonhealth @CDCgov @VoiceOfFranky @AntibioticDoc @Sander_vdLinden @NBTiller @RyanMarino
