In my work as a priest I come across a whole section of society that is completely excluded because they don't use, or want to use, the internet. A thread 🧵

Dad loves creepy charity shop portraits. I commissioned an artist friend to paint two of the same woman only in one she's smiling. Gave Dad the other and he put it on the landing. Changed it for April Fools and it shocked him so much he fell down the stairs and fractured his arm.

From @FT on the huge voter suppression implications of the rushed and expensive voter-ID requirement.

Back of my Polling Card for local elections. For 1st time, photo ID is required. Card gives many options for elderly or those with disability. None, NONE, for younger or student voters. The policy is simply biased against younger voters, designed to suppress their vote.

The government has sold the Oxford Vaccination production unit to an American Company for £200m Built in 2014 to respond to Ebola and absolutely essential during Covid, we will not have it for the next pandemic. It would cost just £5m a year to keep open. Another Conservative Party benefical financial deal for somebody or just their normal incompetence? @RishiSunak, could somebody please look at this and explain why.

Gary Lineker shouldn't have to speak out for human rights Marcus Rashford shouldn't have to feed school children A war hero shouldn't have to walk for PPE The common issue here is the Tory Government we have had to endure for 13 years #IStandWithGary #MOTD #Solidarity

Today's dictionary discovery: 'every little helps' is quite probably based on a 16th-century French proverb, which is a little fuller - 'every little helps, said the ant pissing into the sea at midday'.

Utterly despicable and grotesque. Poor families also pawned their clothes, and we’re malnourished. Nostalgia for historical poverty is quite frankly sickening and deranged. Poor families more resourceful in past, says top Tory Lee Anderson bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-6…

Asteroid Sar2667, about a meter in diameter, was expected to fall near the French city of Le Havre at 02:59h UTC. I drove to a photogenic spot close to home in the south of the Netherlands to capture it, just as the sky cleared. #asteroid #meteor @IMOmeteors @apod
