"Grandpa, how affluent was America in the early years of the Great Decline?"
"So affluent, people were complaining about the phrasing of the name of a chain bakery where you could stop in and buy freshly baked bundt cakes on demand."

Sal Frelick is playing in the World Series for the Milwaukee Brewers.
Some of his best friends in the world are people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and he has been showing up for them since high school.
Here is how he describes them.
"I really do think they're angels."
Here is the whole thing.
Frelick grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts. In high school he was already friends with a lot of the students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Not as a project. Just friends in the hallway.
Then someone told him about Best Buddies, a nonprofit that pairs students with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
"I had just been friends with these kids in the hallways, so I was like, 'Sounds fun.'"
He joined. He went to their events. He went to their prom.
One of the friends he made back then is still one of his best friends today. Every offseason, back home near Boston, they go out to dinner.
His hometown runs a Unified Basketball league, where athletes with and without disabilities play on the same team. Frelick shows up to the big end of season event and brings shoes and sweatshirts for the players.
Then the Brewers made him a big leaguer, and he moved to Milwaukee. He said something felt off.
"When I was out here, it was almost like something was missing from my life in that aspect."
So he sent a message on Instagram to the local Best Buddies chapter and asked how he could help.
He started going to their events. Their Friendship Walk drew more than 1,000 people.
One of the chapter directors said this about him.
"He has a huge heart and compassion for the community we serve."
Then he found Inclusion Coffee Company in Hartland, Wisconsin, a shop where most of the staff are people with disabilities.
The owner explained why she opened it.
"My idea was to give our friends with disabilities a place to work after high school."
Frelick came in one Saturday morning before a game. Anybody could come get a coffee and take a picture with him. The money went to Best Buddies and the staff.
The owner asked fans for one thing. No autographs, please. Just come in, buy a coffee from the staff, and take a picture.
Here is the honest part. This was not a huge foundation or a million dollar check. It was an hour on a Saturday, a lot of dinners, and a lot of showing up.
But that is exactly the point, and he will tell you so himself.
"If you're around people with special needs or they're in the same environment as you, go up and talk to them."
Tonight he has a chance to win a World Series. Win or lose, he has already been showing up where it counts.

Everyone who dislikes my baseball purism will be delighted to know that, due to a local Internet outage, I am being forced to listen to the last game of the World Series on the radio tonight.

As a kid, I wanted every World Series to go 7 games. I felt robbed by a 5 game series in both 1983 and 1984. I didn’t want baseball to end, because Spring was so far away.
I’m still that kid.
Oh hey, MLB? These extra innings are a lot more exciting without a ghost runner. Can we please remove it from regular season games forever? Please???
The best governor in America. A wildly successful two terms leading a large state.
We know he can lead. He has proven it.
There could be no choice for President in 2028 more certain to do a good job than Ron DeSantis.
As Ron DeSantis enters the final weeks of his governorship of Florida, look at what he has accomplished.
His record is nothing short of miraculous and may be the single most effective governorship in the history of the United States.
Let’s remember….
He was the first to stand up to crazy COVID restrictions and reopen schools and businesses, he led the nation in school choice with more than half 1 million families now in the school of their choosing, he eliminated state debt and left the state with 18 billion in rainy day funds, and most importantly he signed the Heartbeat Protection Act, which ended most abortions after six weeks.
Everyone I know who lives in Florida says it is the most well-run state in the country. Well done governor!🙏

If the best option he could find was himself, at least Jay-Z could have chosen Weird @alyankovic.

Get outta here, gone!
Every time a starting pitcher gets pulled way prematurely, a little piece of my fandom dies inside.
It's the most ruinous trend in baseball. It is stupid strategy, to boot. It needs to end.
You know why the window exists? To look out of it. You are on an airplane thousands of feet in the sky. That's amazing! You should enjoy the view.
May you never become such a bitter grouch so that you say things like this absolute jackass.
Enjoy your window. Use it. xitter.gq/eric_bach7/status/2113…
Elizabeth Warren doesn't need to worry about condiment monopolies unless they find a way to improve upon Zankou Chicken's garlic sauce.
This is not possible.

An award-winning ESPN producer resigned after 24 years over the network's embrace of sports betting: “I’m not going to work for a gambling company and have blood on my hands.” cjr.org/the-interview/nicole…
This is cheap engagement farming, and copying the same thing others have been saying on here.
It's also completely backwards. Advertisers buy time based on the demographics of the viewers tuning in. Viewers don't tune in because of the ads showing during the broadcast.
Hey @MLB - wanna get more kids watching baseball?
Maybe start with the commercials.
Watching the playoffs tonight with my kids and here's the rundown:
- Megan Fox selling ED pills in a red bodysuit
- The scariest movie trailer you've ever seen
- Sydney Sweeney in zero clothes promoting betting on sports
Leagues can't figure out why kids don't watch.
You don't need a Nickelodeon game. You're not the Savannah Bananas.
Just show baseball in a way I can leave on in my house.
Your periodic reminder that the Los Angeles Rams are grossly overrated because they put up big numbers in fantasy football. They are not a great team. Buffalo is better and will win this game.
