Behind every reported farm attack is a human being, a family and a community left devastated. Among the cases highlighted in a widely shared social media post are: * Brendin Horner (21): The Free State farm manager was found murdered near Paul Roux in October 2020. His death shocked the farming community. * Hannah Cornelius (21): The Stellenbosch University student was murdered in May 2017 after she and a friend were hijacked. Her friend survived the attack. * Johanco Fleischman and Jessica Kuhn: The young couple were shot and killed on the N12 near Putfontein in May 2019 after their vehicle ran out of fuel. * Wilmien Potgieter (2): She was among the victims of the 2010 Lindley farm murders, in which her father Attie and other family members were also killed. * Kayla Meyer (9): Her name is also included in the account of a devastating family attack near Randfontein. * Wiehan Botes (5 months): The baby was reportedly killed in Delmas in May 2012, in an incident that also claimed the life of his 66-year-old caregiver. These are separate tragedies that occurred in different years and communities. Each deserves to be remembered with dignity, and every crime must be investigated properly, with those responsible held accountable through the courts. Farm workers, farmers, children, visitors and rural families all deserve protection. Violence in rural communities should never be treated as normal or acceptable.
