Took the SenseCAP T1000-E as my carry today. These are easy to get running on Meshtastic and the range is solid. Battery already in it, decent case, and you can be talking on the mesh in a few minutes.

New Meshtastic tutorial just dropped 🚀
Shawn Hymel (DigiKey) walks through the basics of getting started: flashing the firmware onto real hardware (XIAO ESP32-S3, XIAO nRF52840, and the SenseCAP T1000-E), configuring the app, and sending your first messages.
Covers the critical stuff beginners miss — region settings, presets (LongFast), frequency slots, node names, and why your direct messages sometimes fail until keys are exchanged. Then they get three nodes talking and set up a private encrypted channel.
Part 2 of their LoRa mesh series. Perfect if you’ve been curious about off-grid mesh but didn’t know where to start.

Most Bluetooth links give up around 100 m. Ours held a two-way link at 4.6 km, measured ground to ground on a highway, line of sight.
The recipe: BLE Coded PHY (S=8), a 20 dBm PA and a 12 dB LNA on an STM32WB07.

Meshtastic 2.8.1 alpha adds signed packets and turns location sharing off by default.
I’m staying on the current stable firmware for now. The alpha looks useful for privacy and bigger meshes, but it’s still early.
