Green Party Councillor vehemently objects to Prime Minister spending an hour in an evening helping to raise money for a cancer charity. Ok then π€¦ββοΈ
'Is that a really good use of his time?'
'Raising money for a cancer charity?'
The Green Party's @floschechter brands Andy Burnham going on Gogglebox as 'ridiculous'.

Hello folks, if you were affected by the Armed Forces LGBT Ban between 1967 and 2000, you can apply for the Financial Recognition Scheme and other forms of recognition. π

This is incredibly concerning and frankly shocking - Turning Point UK and its leaders should be fully investigated for their links as an organisation and as individuals to paramilitaries and organised violence, and we need transparency on their funding.
A former Tory election candidate has been suspended from the party after he was seemingly filmed discussing the cost of hiring contract killers and offering to βbrokerβ the services of a far-right activist with alleged paramilitary links.

The collapse in violent crime over three decades has been one of the most striking developments of my lifetime.
News is about whatβs going wrong, and rightly so. But the bigger picture also matters
From todayβs figures:-

Think that was one of my favourite @bbcquestiontime episodes.
We found areas of agreement and disagreement, but where we disagreed we disagreed well.
How it should be. A pleasure to debate the issues with you @TomTugendhat @EllieChowns @GeoffNorcott @MyStephanomics.

Some chatter on social media would have you believe that crime is out of control.
The facts tell a different story.
As @frasernelson has shown in his Substack today:
Violence is at its lowest level since the crime survey began in 1981.
Robbery is at a record low.
Crime, excluding fraud, is 78% down on its peak in 1995.
And the stats show this Government is delivering on its promises too:
Knife crime is down 11%.
Knife murders are at their lowest level in 35 years.
Thefts including phone snatching have fallen by 20% in the last year alone.
But I know there is more that we must do, and we will:
Weβve put more than 3,800 extra neighbourhood officers into roles, with named, contactable officers for every neighbourhood.
Weβre introducing the most significant reforms to policing in a generation.
We are tackling rising rates of violence against women and girls through our landmark strategy.
And we are tackling crimes like fraud, more prevalent in our increasingly online world, with Β£250 million directed to this challenge in our Fraud Strategy published this year.
Pensioner poverty has halved in the past 30 years, as the shadow work and pensions secretary @Helen_Whately claimed. But how much of this was down to the Conservatives?
Almost all the fall sheβs talking about happened under Labour.

Sorry to see that #Exeterβs former MP for 27 years, Sir John Hannam, has died at the age of 97.
By all accounts he was a decent man - his obituary makes clear his passion for disability rights.
My sincere condolences go to his family and friends.

.Stuart Ramsay and his team join the 11th Brigade in Ukraine, helping the few who try to escape Oleshky - a city under Russian siege - escape. They witness two grandmothers trying to escape through the 'road of death and life' on bikes as a Russian drone heads in their direction.
Ukrainian soldiers say residents of Oleshky are not allowed to leave under Russian occupation. The only way out is a 20km road to the other side of the Dnipro River, where Ukraine is free from occupation.

Unemployment rate down to 4.7%, and employment rate up in latest figures. Now down 0.5% from 5.2% peak last year.
Measurement issues in the headline jobs figures, but the quality is increasing so these numbers may reflect situation better than last yearβs numbers.
Vacancies fell again though, lowest outside covid since 2014, but also in line with average. By sector the levels story is as would be expected - concentrated in social care/ retail and hospitality BUT they were all flat in latest quarter, retail actually added 3k vacancies.
General picture of a low hire low fire low churn flat labour market, with some interesting under the hood stories.
Peak in long term sickness driving fall in inactivity? Down 80k from 2.82m in Jun-Aug 2025 to 2.74m. The small has occurred amongst male workers. Female inactivity is flat. Overall still up 600k plus since pandemic.
Age hit - Over 65s fastest age group adding to payrolls - up 5.6% in year to September. 25-34 yo down 1.9%.
AI tech jobs challenge? Not coming through in the payroll numbers cut by age, eg for 18-24 year olds, but sectorally info & comms payroll numbers have fallen by the most of any major sector - down 2.5% over past year, bigger proportional hit than eg hospitality.
Clear public-private split on growing payrolls and earnings growth.
