My resolution to the Berkeley People's Park construction dispute: make People's Park into a monument run by a foundation formed from the protesting groups. The foundation buys the Park property and UC gets funded to build their student housing on another Berkeley property.
OK, so a right to have an abortion isn't covered by the Contitution.
Does that mean we can't pass laws which guarantee that right?
We can still add ammendments to the Constitution, can't we? Or are there too many Republicans?
If it is really good legal wisdom to preserve everyone's right to carry a concealed wapon, then surely legal wisdom should presrve the right of a pregnant worman to choose to have an abortion.
Ideally, the Supreme Court represents the wisdom backing good government, but the recent decisions on guns and abortion make it clear that what's represented is just a political faction.

A friendly reminder that five out of six conservative Justices on the Supreme Court were appointed by Presidents that lost the popular vote.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
George W Bush lost the popular vote in 2000 (but won it in 2004) before appointing Alito and Roberts in 2005 during his second term. He is still a president who lost the popular vote.
Trump lost the popular vote in 2016 and appointed 3 justices during his single term.

Let’s be clear: inflation is being driven in large part by monopolies that are driving up prices for the sake of profit.

Why would we leave abortion rights at the mercy of a radical, right-wing court?
Take abortion out of the Supreme Court’s hands.
Eliminate the filibuster.
Codify Roe v. Wade.
Guarantee abortion rights.
Today.
US Supreme Court could stop being political if they used their alleged legal wisdom to develop rulings by consensus and kept their votes secret.

It's the filibuster or abortion rights.
The filibuster or voting rights.
The filibuster or trans rights.
The filibuster or a living wage.
The filibuster or freedom.
This should not be a hard choice.

The leak didn’t erode the court’s legitimacy.
Bush v Gore did.
Mitch McConnell denying Obama's nominee and then stealing a seat did.
Lying under oath and then taking away our rights did.
Republicans will focus on the leak to deflect from the Roe ruling. But we see you.
The Supreme Court does not have the final word on abortion. Too many Americans think it is a woman's choice. There will be civil disobedience.
I'd really like to know how a math textbook gets involved with Critical Race Theory. Black algebra? Colored quadratic equations?😄
I made a joke a few weeks ago that Florida would eventually ban math after running out of ways to attack education. I thought it was just a joke…

Financial sanctions don't seem to be motivating the Putin clique to call for a stop to the assaults on Ukraine. Would an assault on a city in Russia do it?
Glad to hear that Judge Jackson was confirmed to SCOTUS.
Ashamed of the performance of most Republican senators, especially of McConnell's walkout.
The Sacramento mass shooting sure looks like innocent people getting caught in the crossfire among some gang bangers who were not supposed to be carrying guns.
