The Pnyx Cyclopean Wall of Athens 🤯
This massive megalithic wall is comprised of HUGE polygonal stones, some weighing 40TONS! It is one of the most impressive feats of ancient engineering in Greece, yet relatively few are even aware of its existence. In fact, I visited this wall twice while in country, and literally NOBODY else was there either time.
For perspective, the largest stones used to create the Parthenon are only 5Tons. This incredible wall stands apart from the most notable sites in Athens that receive all the attention.
Pictures do not do this behemoth justice. Notice how large they are compared to me (I’m 5’10). This wall gave me Baalbek vibes…

The mighty polygonal wall of #Orbetello in #Tuscany stretches nearly 2 miles around the coast.
This clip shows a small section of it. Nearby is the Cosa complex. The wall is said to be Etruscan yet traditionally it is much older. Was it a port, a sea barrier or used for something else?

Seems like a waste of good water. I wonder how much is lost to evaporation?

I don’t know who needs to see this, but the first image is Tongata Manu from Easter island and the second is from Gobekli Tepe, pillar 43

It was awesome meeting you in person. What was the word describing the flat bottoms of the bays? Did you say "viscous sublimation"?

“Not a geologist”? Since when did truth require a title?
The most important discoveries in catastrophist geology weren’t made in classrooms—they were made by those willing to challenge the dogma of uniformitarian thinking.
This isn’t about profession. It’s about perspective.
