How to judge Architecture? How it looks, OR how it performs?
We like to look at architecture and judge it…..by its looks. “Don’t judge a book by the cover”? This is a project that most people would say they would not want to live in because of its looks, but here’s a quote from @Ricburton (a friend on X) about actually having spent time in this project :
“My grandparents lived in the Barbican. What is hard to capture in any image or debate about its architecture is the magic of life there. In one place you have a cinema, music hall, library, set of restaurants, gym & many other things you can walk to. It is a village in a city.” This is real architecture.
