it sucks knowing that once ao3 is back, authors are not going to get the praise everyone promised recently. obviously no one 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴 comments/kudos, but it really feels like the only time authors get any acknowledgment at all is when everything is being taken away.
the point of fanfic is not engagement, but to say that engagement is not one of the driving forces behind this part of the community is a little ignorant. you can’t beg creatives to do the footwork and then not acknowledge them until you’re about to lose them.
back in 2013-16 I used to cross post on 3-5 websites at any given time, so my works always had a back up. but over the years so many of those websites have died or deleted explicit content. I want to hop back on the cross-posting train but idk what websites/archives everyone uses
there’s something so amazing about seeing so many different fandoms come together to share their favorite fics and offer new ways to archive their works

if ao3 means so much to you and is such a big part of your daily life that you feel the weight of its absence now, let it also be a reminder about the importance of leaving kudos and comments even if its just a simple "i loved this!" to show writers you care about their hard work
something I find a little sad about the culture around fanfiction is that far too many people refuse to read ‘older’ fics. even if it’s only a couple of years old. so many people are depriving themselves of so many good fics purely because it’s not in the recently posted
