A second Kansas specimen (with a skull) was not discovered until 2021.
Happy #FossilFriday 🦴 This holotype specimen of Styxosaurus snowii was found in Niobrara Chalk in Logan County, Kansas. The plesiosaur, which once swam in the Western Interior Seaway, was first described by KU paleontologist Samuel W. Williston in 1890.

Hesperornis with baby Xiphactinus. This part of the larger painting is probably the most time consuming and perfectionist thing I have ever drawn, but fortunately I am still happy with the result.

Stumbled across this gorgeous Gillicus skull last weekend. This genus was a favorite snack of many WIS fishes.

Happy #FossilFriday! This charming little face belongs to Urenchelys abditus [FHSM VP-17591], a small eel from the Cretaceous of Kansas. This specimen was only the second find of this species.
