That is more than 6 women every single day in South Africa. Killed.
We call it a GBV epidemic on the news ticker at the bottom of the screen and then we move on to the JSE All Share and the weather. But how do we move on?

Amnesty International SA is calling for femicide to be recognised as a specific crime. The organisation says South Africa has one of the highest femicide rates globally, with 5578 women murdered in 2023/24. Amnesty International SA’s Dr Tegan Snyman notes that some countries have legislation specifically addressing GBV. Snyman adds that there are cases where women are killed simply for being women.
