I didn't post much here, mostly RT'ing what others wrote, but given how things are going (free speech as in racism/fascism/you-name-it is ok; covid disinfo? meh; chinese regime criticism? lifeban) I'll (try to) be mostly dormant and make piaille.fr/@tbroyer my first choice.
If you limit your interactions here, let today's one be to share this far and wide!

If a user deletes a credential on the server, user's sign-in attempt with the associated passkey will fail.
Signal API helps solve this by keeping passkeys consistent between password managers and the server. Chrome 132 desktop will start supporting it.

reminder that the bcrypt hash function ignores input above a certain length! so if you do bcrypt(username || password) for some reason, a sufficiently long username will make it accept any password. to fix this you can sha256 the input first.

ALT Quote from the linked article. The text reads: "It's impossible to compare Nabla's AI-generated transcript to the original recording because Nabla's tool erases the original audio for "data safety reasons," Raison said. Nabla said the tool has been used to transcribe an estimated 7 million medical visits."

2010: Eric Butler (@codebutler) announced Firefox extension Firesheep's release, making HTTP session hijacking on open Wi-Fi trivial.
Today the vast majority of websites have enabled HTTPS and other efforts have largely eliminated the risk. A security industry success! 🏆
