COVID’s no longer a reason as much as a convenient excuse for where we are in education.
In truth, it was probably never really a reason as much as a revelation.
It didn’t upend education.
It exposed education.
And we were long without clothes before COVID joined the parade.

Today I had students in Algebra do a "Brain Dump" on data in groups. Gave each group a poster and ask them to put as much as they could on the posters. Then did a gallery walk. It went AMAZING! Gotta add this routine more often. #iteachmath

In my 29 yrs, the most authentic learning in my class has happened in the absence of grading.
Some of the least authentic learning has happened in the presence of grading.
We only “need grades” because we’ve only used grades.

Just because the curriculum is neatly packaged, doesn't mean that teaching and learning needs to be.

Many exercises that often come pre-packaged in true/false, fill-in-the-blank DOK-1 Qs can be transformed into “construct” & “create” Qs. And when we ask Ss to create, we get them thinking at a deeper level. And these become fun prompts within a thinking classroom! @pgliljedahl

District- You must follow our course calander to the day, everyone districtwide will take the same unit test on the same day. This is non negotiable.
Everyone tries to log in to the district testing platform at the same time.

Teachers don't get bathroom breaks. During lunch (20-30 min. max) teachers are expected to check email, escort students and/or monitor halls, restrooms, take restroom breaks & in Mississippi they assign lunch duty (which takes half the lunch period). Eating is optional. #edchat
