This is absolutely outrageous. LABOUR are carrying out legalised larceny on ANY council that does not vote for them. Previously well run councils now face bankruptcy so as to fund spendthrift and useless LABOUR councils.😡 Read the article - I have removed the paywall and see if your council tax is about to rocket upwards… Burnham declares £500m ‘class war’ on councils Tory and Lib Dem-run authorities face deep funding cuts while Labour strongholds enjoy £1.6bn increase telegraph.co.uk/gift/a5067aa…

This is quite frankly appalling. Labour stealing money from councils they don’t run to give to ones they do run. Its benefits culture all over again. Punish those that work hard and pay their way and reward the layabouts. telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…

As someone who campaigned stronglyfor us to Leave and had been calling for a referendum for years I find this utterly ridiculous. This is a real attack on decent people all over the country who were absolutely fed up with the UK being subject to the anti democratic EU Commission telling us what to do National borders matter and UK unable to make our own decisions with genuine sovereignty was why I campaigned to Leave. This is a huge insult to millions of British people who certainly were not influenced in their note by ANYONE from Russia. Deliberate lies and disappointing that the Prime Minister has stooped so low All part of trying to get us back in but the British people are not stupid !

It’s incredible watching Labour MPs lecture everyone else about “sleaze, scandal and police investigations.” Bridget Phillipson says, “It’s time to stop the cover ups and come clean to the public.” Fine. Then perhaps Labour could start with Peter Mandelson. The public has not forgotten. Labour doesn’t get to demand transparency from everybody else while hoping its own scandals quietly disappear.
There's more whitewash in this report than at your local B&Q. Nothing in it exonerates Reform UK and Nigel Farage. They're not above the rules. The sleaze, scandal and police investigations aren’t going away. It’s time to stop the cover ups and come clean to the public.

Dear Andy, you do know this is untrue, don’t you? Highest energy bills in the world are due to: * Reckless pursuit of net zero * Blowing up our coal-fired power stations * Failing to exploit our own fossil fuels * Insane dependency on foreign oil and gas. The phrase “over a barrel” springs to mind * Paying Norway £20 billion plus a year for oil and gas we could get out of our own North Sea * Subsidizing renewables to the tune of billions by slapping green taxes on bills * Putting an eco-cult and leftist ideology before the comfort and warmth of the British people * Allowing good jobs to be lost in pursuit of all of the above * Claiming your government wants to “reindustrialise” while creating conditions no manufacturer could succeed in * Closing refineries and gas storage so the UK is uniquely vulnerable this winter and likely to have serious power cuts. You’re welcome. @andyburnham
I want to be honest about how we’ve got to a place where British billpayers are paying some of the highest energy costs in Europe. Over the past 40 years, we’ve given up control of our necessities, outsourced our essentials and privatised the basics. Water, transport, housing. And of course, energy. Now the public are paying the price. We haven’t invested in the infrastructure we need. Conflict overseas has pushed up energy costs and it’s hurting our businesses and families. That’s why we need to take back greater control of our energy system. This week, I announced Great British Grid, which will speed up connections and push down bills. We’re also giving mayors, local leaders and communities a stronger role. With funding for People’s Power projects, communities will be able to build solar panels on libraries and town halls, hydro schemes in rivers or publicly owned windfarms on local land. But it’s not just energy we need stronger public control over. It’s also water, housing, transport and care. So we’re repealing the ban on public ownership of water companies. We’re building more council homes than this country has seen since the end of World War Two. We’re reforming the leasehold system so families aren’t squeezed for every penny. And we’re opening up home ownership for first time buyers who can’t rely on the bank of mum and dad. This week I also announced my determination to introduce a National Care Service, to put people above profit and to give pensioners peace of mind. Together, we’ll rewire the country from top to bottom so that it works for all people in all places. That is the only way to put Britain back on the right path. It’s the only way to put power back in people’s hands. And it’s the only way we will bring hope again.

Andy Burnham Social Care: Free, Except for the Bill The small print has arrived... Andy Burnham stood at Labour conference and sold his National Care Service in the language of the NHS: “free at the point of use”, giving people “peace of mind”, and crucially, a system which “protects people’s homes and their savings”. He did so while speaking movingly about his own family’s experience of residential care. Then Fiona Bruce pressed Miatta Fahnbulleh on what that actually means. And suddenly the promise became considerably narrower. People going into a care home will STILL have to pay accommodation costs. Fahnbulleh acknowledged those costs could be “very hefty”. When Bruce pointed out that some people could therefore STILL end up having to sell their homes, Fahnbulleh did not deny it. She moved instead to the argument that free personal care should allow more people to remain in their own homes for longer. That distinction is everything. Labour is proposing free PERSONAL care based on need. It is not promising that every cost associated with living in a residential care home will disappear. The Government's own announcement carefully uses the phrase “no personal care charges”, while the final design is still to be worked out following Baroness Casey's recommendations. So we should correct one thing before Labour's ambiguity becomes our own: this does not mean personal care in a care home would necessarily remain chargeable. It means the accommodation and other living costs of residential care may remain chargeable. And if those bills remain substantial, the family home may still ultimately be caught in the means-testing system. That matters because Burnham didn't sell this from the conference stage as a minor extension of domiciliary care. He invoked the NHS, his father's care, the selling of his grandmother's home, and promised a service that would protect “people's homes and their savings”. For context, under England's existing 2026/27 system, the upper capital threshold remains just £23,250 and the lower threshold £14,250. Watch the exchange carefully. “Free social care” sounds magnificent from a conference platform. “Free personal care, but you may still face hefty residential accommodation charges and may still have to sell your home” is rather less likely to bring the hall to its feet. The difference between those two sentences is where the politics is hiding. Read more 👇 heartlandstribune.com/andy-b…

With the idea of UK rejoining the EU back on the political agenda the proposed EU budget for 2028 to 2034 becomes of more interest. Brussels is pushing for a €2 trillion budget over these seven years though some, led by Germany, are trying to get that reduced. But on basis of €2 trillion, if the UK was to rejoin before 2034 (unlikely in my view), its gross contribution would be around €35 billion/year (+ whatever re-entry fee was demanded in early years). The net contribution would be less. But the ratio of gross-to-net would be lower than during our previous membership — because this time round there is zero prospect of resurrecting the rebate.
