I've tried more than once to get into Gymkhana in London. No luck.
Luckily for me, @Traversal and @Factory are taking over Gymkhana in Vegas for AWS re:Invent.
The @AmericanExpress CTO will kick it off, and then I’ll be moderating a conversation with @_anish_agarwal from @traversal_ai , @matanSF from @FactoryAI, @SamarAtTemporal from @temporalio , @hwchase17 from @LangChain, and @paraga from @p0
Tuesday, Dec 1.

auth isn't a one time job. it's keeping a browser profile alive through MFA, approvals, and reauth every time after the first. that's a @temporalio workflow.

When your AI agent goes down, your company's reputation could go with it.
Temporal co-founder on why reliability can't be something AI teams figure out later:
"As long as it's working, no one cares. But the moment there is a problem, people realize how important that backbone is."
"Once these systems are down, it causes so much pain to the customers. It erodes the trust in whatever product, whatever brand you are trying to build."
"I see it shifting where people will be thinking about what's the reliability backbone you want to have in place before you build these AI systems on top of it."

BREAKING: INSIDE TEMPORAL'S $550M SERIES E AT A $12.55B VALUATION
Samar Abbas (co-founder and CEO of @temporalio) joined @anoushkavaswani and me to break down the infrastructure layer that keeps agents running through failures.
🔄 A company founded in 2019 - years before "agent" was a category
📈 $250M+ ARR growing 200%+ YoY, and net dollar retention above 200% since February.

When we were diligencing what would become @temporalio, and simultaneously trying to convince @mfateev and @SamarAtTemporal to take the leap and start the company, one reference stuck with me.
@mitchellh said something to the effect of, “any long-running service should be built on Temporal.”
7 years later, that feels prescient. Today, everyone from OpenAI to JPMorgan is building their most important agents and applications on Temporal.
$550M raised at a $12.55B valuation is an incredible milestone. But what’s even more remarkable is watching Temporal become a foundational piece of the AI-native stack.
Even from those humble early days it still feels like the beginning! Huge congrats to the entire team! Onward! 🚀🚀🚀
We did it again. Temporal just raised a $550M Series E round at a $12.55B valuation.

A big congrats to @SamarAtTemporal & the @temporalio team on the $550M Series E! 👏
We partnered with Temporal at the Series D, when AI agents were becoming more capable, but the infrastructure to make them reliable in production didn't yet exist.
Six months later, agents are running payments + customer operations, & Temporal's durable execution layer keeps that work running no matter what breaks.
We are proud to continue our partnership with Temporal. Read more about why we first invested: sapphireventures.com/blog/th…

We are incredibly excited to announce Temporal's Series E.
It wasn't so long ago that we met Max and Samar working on open source Cadence at Uber.
Fast forward and they're at 4K+ paying customers, a $12.55B valuation, 200%+ NDR 🔥

I'm stoked for next week's Builder After Hours: Durable Agents with @MongoDB , @temporalio, and @KeycardAI (9/15, SF). Instead of the usual lineup of separate talks, @MelGoesTech is bringing a fresh take: co-presenting one shared architecture, then diving into each component.

Had a blast talking with Tilde at @GoogleCloudTech about IMAXXING and how today's models + tools can do a lot more to help deploy and operate your apps: youtube.com/watch?v=1LInqYY2…
My favorite Cloud Run fact most devs miss: you can add a domain name without adding a load balancer!
Everyone is making agents these days. But, an agent hammering away without your data is pretty useless. An agent with real-time access to internal data is pretty powerful.
I'm speaking at @temporalio's "Durable AI: Agent Context is Everything" on Wed, Aug 26th. Excited to share a bunch about how Chalk can help you ship better agents.
Come hang!

Reinventing Distributed Systems for Agents: Andrew Baker & Cornelia Davis (Temporal)
"The harness is running on the outside, and it's instrumenting things into the sandbox. The sandbox can catch on fire, but if you put the right pieces outside of it you're not going to have a problem."
@andrewtorkbaker, who leads Developer Relations at @temporalio, and @cdavisafc, Principal Technologist at Temporal and author of Cloud Native Patterns, talked to us at @aiDotEngineer World's Fair about why building agents keeps re-teaching the industry the lessons it already learned in the microservices era.
We get into:
> Why an agent is just a distributed, long-running, non-deterministic system, and why the old patterns all come back
> How MCP is growing up: async Tasks, going stateless, and Enterprise Managed Auth as an extension
> Why credentials and the harness now live outside the sandbox, scoped to the task and nothing more
> Why a durable event history is what lets you roll back a runaway agent that drops your database
TIMESTAMPS
(00:50) Temporal, durable execution, and why AI systems are really distributed systems
(01:45) Microservices déjà vu: retries, circuit breakers, and MCP going async
(03:10) MCP is growing up: async Tasks, going stateless, OAuth as an extension
(04:10) MCP as the security surface, a reverse integration proxy for your tools
(05:50) ID-JAG: log into your IDP once, and security gets eyes on every grant
(07:00) OAuth islands and the tokens nobody can find or revoke
(08:30) Shared memory for parallel agents brings back access control and concurrency
(10:30) A protocol to govern shared memory, and why it is still unsolved
(13:40) AAuth, the agent's mission, and running agents without an API key
(19:10) Pulling the harness out of the sandbox to snapshot it from the outside
(20:40) Durable event history: if an agent drops a database, you can go back
(21:50) Credentials outside the sandbox, scoped to the task and nothing more
(22:50) Layered harnesses: the inner loop vs the outer security layer
(24:00) Evals replace unit tests when the system is non-deterministic
