Tesla & SpaceX investor since 2016 🇪🇺 1M+ km of real diesel vs EV data. FSD in Europe, EU politics, xAI/Grok. Calling out bots and "experts".

17 years, 4 cars, 1,026,976 km, all mine and all real numbers, not brochure values. The two Peugeot diesels burned 35,280 litres over 659,000 km, that is almost 30 tonnes of fuel, and at today's €2.392/l in Bavaria it would cost €84,389. The same 659,000 km in my 2019 Model 3 would cost about €42,000 charged at home, losses included. A short thread for everybody who still thinks EVs are "too expensive" to run 🧵

Almost 30% BEV in September and 22.7% for the year according to ACEA, up from 16.1% a year ago. Petrol and diesel together are down to 28.2% of new EU cars, diesel alone 7.1%. I drove 659,000 km on two Peugeot diesels, so trust me, nobody will "miss" them 😅
29.87% BEV in the EU in September First thing I noticed: Croatia had an outlier month in PHEV at almost 15%

Now add Europe. I paid €4,500 for FSD in 2019 and after 345,300 km it has driven exactly 0 km in Germany, while 9 EU countries already use it. Tesla counts 100,000+ customers in Europe, and the biggest EU car market is still "waiting" for Brussels 🇪🇺
So Tesla is now generating $1 billion in annual recurring revenue from self-driving that requires supervision, and isn’t even available in most of Europe or China. I wonder what their ARR will be when they are approved worldwide and don’t require human supervision. $10 billion? $100 billion? more?

We are launching the Tesla Robotaxi safety report today. Till date, Robotaxi has driven a total of 3.3 million miles autonomously, and has had zero injuries nor airbag deployments. If the same number of miles were to be manually driven, we should expect roughly 9 injuries to the occupants or other pedestrians and 4 airbag deployments on average. We will continue to transparently share our progress with the public using this page. tesla.com/robotaxi/safety

🇪🇺 My bet was that Europe gets one line in the Q3 update. It got two, with real numbers: FSD Supervised is live in 9 EU countries, used by over 100,000 customers, with more than 160 million km since the first approval in April. Nice "anecdotal" data for the skeptics, but any EU vote still needs 15 states and 65% of the population, and these 9 cover about 13.9%. Source: Tesla Q3 2026 Shareholder Update
Q3 Shareholder Update → ir.tesla.com Highlights – FSD Supervised attach rate grew to over 75% of new vehicle deliveries in NA – Unveiled the next-gen Roadster – Record deliveries in Canada, Australia, Japan & Taiwan – Tesla Semi now in volume production. Top variant can go up to 500 miles at a full 82,000 lbs while achieving efficiency of 1.7 kWh/mile – about a third of the energy a comparable diesel truck burns for the same load – Ended the quarter with the largest backlog for our passenger vehicles in 4 years! FSD Supervised – 4 new approvals since Q2 (Croatia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Slovakia) – FSD is now live in nine EU countries & used by over 100,000 customers logging more than 160 million kilometers since initial approval Robotaxi – Deployed Cybercab into our Austin fleet – Hit nearly 2 million cumulative unsupervised miles, 8x growth in the quarter – Austin service now runs 6 am to midnight, with wait times continuing to come down as we add cars & improve the orchestration algorithms – Added Grok to Cybercab with Grok Bot & Connectors, letting you interface with your inbox, calendar, files, chats and tasks, all by voice. Transport, office & living room in one Robotics – Started production of @Tesla_Optimus on our high-volume lines in Fremont. These are the first production-quality bots we've built, proving that the current manufacturing process for Optimus is suitable for a commercial product SI Compute – On track for 400 MW of training compute by year end, feeding both vehicle & humanoid autonomy – Austin Fab construction continues, equipment commissioning planned for 2027 Battery – Battery supply is still the limiter on how fast we ramp vehicles globally, so we're expanding on every front: pack capacity in Berlin, cathode and lithium refining in Texas, LFP cells in Nevada – Shipped the first Megapacks built entirely with our own LFP cells – Increasing 4680 output to support ramp of Cybercab, Semi & Model Y Energy – Megafactory Texas is up & running, with Megapack 3 production started – Highest-ever order rate & backlog for energy storage Grid constraints & power availability are making Megapack the answer for SI infrastructure demand: it excels at supplying large data center loads, smooths out demand spikes, helps new projects meet grid connection rules & makes the grid itself more stable All with less local fossil fuel generation Supporting Infrastructure – Added 2,100+ net new Supercharger stalls, up 14% year over year

United's CEO says flyers now switch airlines just because of Starlink. In Europe Air France got there first: free Starlink Wi-Fi for Flying Blue members since 2025, more than 60% of the fleet already done and all of it promised by the end of 2026. Good to see a European airline not "waiting for Brussels" for once 😉
JUST IN: United CEO Scott Kirby says loyal flyers of other airlines are switching to United solely because of Starlink • About half of United departures are on Starlink jets today, more Starlink flights than the entire U.S. airline industry combined
• 640+ aircraft equipped, about 3 more every day
• 5.4 million United customers used Starlink in September
• 61% of departures by end of 2026, 87% by June 1, fleetwide by end of 2027 "Customers who are brand loyal to other airlines and have flown them for years switch to a United flight solely because of Starlink." Source: United Q3 2026 results (Oct 20) and earnings call (Oct 21)

Tesla now runs its own Robotaxi safety page: 3.3 million miles with no safety monitor on board, 0 injuries, 0 airbag deployments, 0 pedestrians or cyclists hit. Human drivers would have caused about 9 injury crashes on the same Texas miles. Meanwhile in Germany the "supervised" version I paid for in 2019 still waits for Brussels 🙃
Tesla just introduced a new Robotaxi and safety report website with lots of new info, including a live Robotaxi mile counter. Here’s everything new: • People Injured by Tesla Robotaxis: 0 • Tesla Robotaxi Airbag Deployments: 0 • Pedestrians or Cyclists Hit: 0 Tesla Robotaxi miles by city: • Austin, TX: 2,118,015 • Dallas, TX: 608,130 • Houston, TX: 225,964 • Miami, FL: 46,262 • Orlando, FL: 61,053 • Tampa, FL: 53,117 Other new Robotaxi info: • Miles driven after dark: 862,000 • Miles in rain: 113,000 • Miles in rush hour: 575,000 tesla.com/robotaxi/safety

Model Y was Europe's best selling car in September with 40,971 registrations, Model 3 second with 25,057 (Dataforce, preliminary). The Y is built in Grünheide, the 3 in Shanghai. So the "Made in Europe" plan would hit half of Tesla's podium too. Fine by me, as long as it hits the subsidized Chinese brands harder.

Luxembourg's mobility minister told parliament on 20 Oct that FSD Supervised is driver assistance, and that Luxembourg waits for a "harmonised" EU approach instead of recognising the Dutch approval. Harmonised means waiting for Germany, France and Italy, who wait for Brussels too. Meanwhile Belgium next door already drives it 🙃
SpaceX Q3: $14.6B revenue, up 161%, and $4.4B net profit. Starlink added 1.6 million subscribers in one quarter, now 13.6 million, and the first paying Starship flight carried 26 V3 satellites. Europe's IRIS² is still a "plan" for 2030.. render unto Caesar 🚀
Congrats SpaceX team!

The Ferrari CEO praised @Tesla's new Roadster unveil today: "It certainly shows that in the automotive world there's still a lot to be done. We have to keep dreaming. As a European, thank you for showing us how that, even in an old world, you can still innovate and dare." He gave the Roadster launch 10 out of 10 for technology and 10 out of 10 for presentation.

Waymo starts testing in Madrid, with paid driverless rides planned for 2027 or 2028. Meanwhile Spain keeps Tesla's supervised TAD "under study", while 9 EU countries already allow it. Spain might get the robotaxi before the "driver assistance" 🙃
Waymo has announced that they are coming to Madrid in 2028

Fair question to the Chancellor. Germany could recognise the Dutch approval under Art. 39, like 8 other EU countries did. But Bilger said Berlin goes that route only if the EU fails, and the KBA wants its own test. So "faster approvals" means waiting for Brussels 🙄
🇩🇪 @SteffenBilger @BMV

Elon giving Brussels credit, I will screenshot this one 😅 The EU did the same for cars years ago: my 2019 Model 3 came with a CCS2 port because Europe set the plug standard, while in the US Tesla's own plug had to win the market first. Two roads to one plug.. both worked.
Have to give the EU regulators credit where it’s due for making all Apple products use USB-C

X now says it rewards posts people read all the way through. Good news for anyone who writes three full sentences instead of an ALL CAPS "BREAKING" one liner. Let's see how long until the bots learn to write paragraphs too 🤖
Two important changes to timeline recommendations: - New AI/SI ranking model that predicts probable time spent much better - Retrieval model trained to surface posts people read all the way through User active seconds is growing exponentially and hitting all-time highs almost every day:

Top 7 retail questions for tomorrow's Tesla Q3 call, and not one is about Europe 🙃 TAD is live in 9 of 27 EU countries, about 13.9% of people, while Germany, France and Italy wait for Brussels. My question: what is the plan to bring the big three on board?
Here are the top 7 voted for questions by retail investors for @Tesla's Q3 earnings call this Wednesday: 1) How does the Cybercab fleet scale past Austin, and what’s the regulatory path outside Texas given NHTSA’s open safety review? 2) When can we anticipate FSD unsupervised in customer cars? 3) When will the CyberCab be available for customer purchase/ownership? 4) What’s the unit economics per paid robotaxi mile, and how does it compare to the thirty-cent target? 5) What’s the cost per Optimus unit, and what does the first paying customer look like? 6) When do you anticipate Optimus will begin generating revenue? 7) Tesla has acknowledged that HW3 vehicles cannot support unsupervised FSD. When will owners know whether they can upgrade their hardware for free, and when will Tesla provide a clear plan?

Grok Bot on the iPhone Action Button: one press and you are talking. No app to open and no menus, which is exactly how an assistant should work when your hands are busy. Siri had more than a decade for this and still asks me to "try again later" 😄
Cool, you can now talk to Grok Bot using the Action Button on your iPhone.
