Gurdjieff is so goated. As soon as you realize you've been living on autopilot, you start asking yourself on the spot what your higher self would do and actually gather the impulse to do it.

Steiner’s take on the biblical flood is fascinating: — Noah → advanced spiritual initiate — Ark → wisdom and spiritual teachings — Animals → soul qualities and instincts To him, the flood was the gateway to the post-Atlantean epoch—the moment humanity gained logical intellect.

Many modern-day Christians don’t understand the deeper meaning behind most biblical stories. For example: Jonah’s journey. He is called to go to Nineveh, refuses and sails in the opposite direction. He is swallowed by a great fish, prays, is released onto Nineveh and finally fulfills God’s command to preach there. Most people remain at the surface level and describe this as a simple tale of repentance: Jonah disobeyed God, was punished, repented and then obeyed. But this misses the important points: — The fish isn’t just punishment; it serves as both grave and womb, where Jonah’s old identity dies and a new one begins to form. — The fish is also the unconscious, into which the ego must descend before surrendering its illusion of sovereignty and reorganizing itself around the deeper Self. — Nineveh is the rejected differentiated parts of our self that we believe are undeserving of mercy. — His mission is to reconcile that part of the self that wants Nineveh destroyed. The deeper lesson is about the death of the self-righteous ego and the involvement of the process of individuation in our impulse to be merciful to those we hate.

Many sales consultants tell the same story: they’ve met salespeople who, regardless of their territory’s size, consistently make the same amount of money. They subconsciously see themselves as someone who earns X, and that’s exactly what they end up making.

Goethe saw two extremes to avoid in art: —Passive imitation: copying what exists. —Arbitrary invention: creating without any relation to reality. Ideal art lies between them: observing reality and its relations, then expressing them creatively.

“The ordinary man is not free in his life, in his manifestations, or in his moods. He cannot be what he would like to be, and what he considers himself to be, he is not that.” — G. I. Gurdjieff, Beelzebub's Tales to His Grandson, Chapter 48.

Despair comes from failing to become yourself, partly through living unconsciously. The self has two dimensions: what is given to you and what you must become. To reconcile them, you need God, accepting that you are not the ultimate arbiter of your existence.

The importance of selecting a few reference figures early in your life cannot be overstated. Scattering your thinking across many mediocre figures does the most damage to your individuation. Study the greats, and only the greats.

The other day I heard a woman say she prefers younger men over 40 yo men, this doesn't matter, it's about what their subconscious self-image pulls them towards. The truth is their animus, healthy or not, attracts them to The Logos: focused, directional energy found in old men.

What is fascinating is one can apply these 3 poles to the animals, let's take the mammals for example: We have the Nervous mammals: Birds, Rats, Rabbits, and so on. They scurry around with rapid, fine movements, and with sensitive senses. Birds are not all so nervous, but they have all have a large head emphasis (which is related to the nerve/sense pole), evidently with the beak and its use. Rhythmic mammals: Lions, dogs, carnivores. These animals thrive in play and the hunt, movement drives these animals with the heart and lungs being the main emphasis in these types of carnivorous mammals who express themselves through movement, with breathing and blood circulation being key to their organism. Metabolic/Limbic mammals: Cows, hoofed animals, goats. Enormous metabolic emphasis as they often have multi-chambered stomachs and rely on fermenting plants in them for food. Deer and antelopes have great strong, long limbs that they stand taller on than animals of the other poles. However there are also threefold divisions inside these threefold divisions, so we can have for example the Ostrich, which is a nervous dominated bird, but out of all the birds one of the most emphasis on digestion with it's extremely long digestive tract and emphasis on fermenting to digest. So it can be seen as a Metabolically based within the Nervous mammals classification. The body structure of these 3 groups of mammals can be analysed, and it makes this threefold classification much more obvious. This threefold classification is also present in fish and more animal groups.

The Garden of Gethsemane took place one day before the Mystery of Golgotha. Christ sets the highest example by saying, “Not my will, but thine.” This represents ego-death for us: freely yielding the lower will to the higher divine will.
