Academia is basically reserved for wealthy kids whose thoughts/outlooks are stalled in the time of their first enrolment, having hung exclusively around those of the same cohort for decades. They invent terms like 'lived experience' (a tautology) but don't believe in them.
You're now hamstrung, distrusted, or even 'wrong' if you try promoting/correcting language. In many jobs, the majority will overthrow you and say 'thru' is the right spelling and find non-buzzword writing to be offputting or untrustworthy
