Two bins, 92 election ballots total, were found in a dumpster at Seattle’s Golden Gardens. King County Elections confirmed the ballots were recovered and replacements issued to the affected voters. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service says it is investigating. But this isn’t happening in isolation. In Utah, a former USPS carrier was indicted for allegedly dumping about 300 mail-in ballots. In California, officials are investigating mail theft that may have included ballots. ProPublica just reported that USPS service cuts caused late-ballot rejection rates to double or triple in affected rural counties. The paper trail is getting harder to ignore. If you sent in a mail-in ballot, make sure it’s been received. We need answers. Every ballot matters.

NEW: Education Minister Paul Calandra tells me he's "very excited" to have Stan Cho on his team, and that the "quality of his work since he's been an MPP is literally second to none." Premier Ford announced Cho will be joining Calandra’s team as a parliamentary assistant — just three months after Cho resigned from cabinet for charging taxpayers $16,000 in Toronto hotel stays. The new role comes with a $22,500 pay bump. Ford declined to comment. Story: thetrillium.ca/insider-news/…

This means that the increased price of RAM and consumer electronics was a result of an artificial "supply chain crisis" created by Jensen Huang pushing NVIDIA's customers to take early delivery of GPUs. Jensen Huang is responsible for making life worse for everyone.
NVIDIA appears to be channel stuffing, forcing Amazon and other customers to take early delivery of GPUs. It's hard to take the argument that these things are "scarce" when you don't even have anywhere to plug them into...unless NVIDIA is saying you NEED to take them now.

Doug Ford is by far the worst thing to happen to Ontario. He is destroying Public Healthcare, Education, Transportation, OSC, Ontario Place... And now he is forcing us to by electricity from New York while he are having a trade dispute with the USA. He can't be gone soon enough.

NEW: In his first year running Ontario's largest school board, the Ford government's TDSB supervisor logged more than twice as many meetings with the board's $20B real estate arm than he did with parent groups, calendar entries reveal. The FOI records offer a rare glimpse into the supervisor’s day-to-day work, raising concerns that parents have taken a back seat under provincial supervision. Story: thetrillium.ca/news/educatio…

AOC: AI systems want us to be dependent and outsource our cognition to a machine, and they want us to increasingly rely on AI systems so that they can sell intelligence back to us. AI needs two things. It needs capital-intensive resources. But it also needs an uneducated population that cannot think, that is not educated, that relies on it so that they can sell cognition back to us.

Overheard Gen Z saying there’s no way undiagnosed ADHD adults just white-knuckled school with zero accommodations. Oh, kids. We didn’t just get through it. We built whole personalities around masking, got called “smart but lazy” by every teacher, and only learned the name for executive dysfunction in our thirties.

This is why Anthropic and OpenAI are panicking and saying "AI is going to kill everyone." They had the market captured before. Now they don't. Normal people & enterprise companies don't need cracked-out, borderline-AGI models like Astra and Fable for their daily work. It's too expensive. The market shifted towards using open weights models that offer 95% of the same capability at 1-2% of the price. These guys totally underestimated their competition, IPOs are now cooked, and they're absolutely panicking. So they're trying to create a regulatory cartel and have all of their competition banned. That's all it comes down to.
Looks like today may be a record day for token volume % of open models on Vercel AI Gateway: 🟦 Open 78.4% 🟨 Closed 21.6% While spend 💲 usually tells a different story, #3 and #4 today are Moonshot AI & DeepSeek. Adding Z.ai, their combined spend surpasses OpenAI (#2). (Do note that's the spend for inference of the model across providers (mostly in the US), not revenue going directly to the open weight labs.)
