Pope Leo XIV welcomed Villanova and Notre Dame for a special private audience at the Vatican ahead of Sunday’s Eternal City Tip-Off in Rome 🏀
Pope Leo XIV may lead the Catholic Church, but even he has a favorite college basketball team.
The first American pope welcomed men's and women's basketball teams from Villanova, his alma mater, and Notre Dame to the Vatican on Saturday ahead of their season-opening matchups in Rome.
"The Pope doesn't take sides. Prevost has another opinion," Leo joked, referring to himself by his birth name, Robert Prevost. A 1977 Villanova graduate and Chicago native, Leo acknowledged his hometown's support for Notre Dame but couldn't resist showing a little school pride.

The Knicks' home opener against the 76ers is BY FAR the most expensive regular-season game in NBA history.
The current get-in price is just under $2,000, which is more than it costs to attend every other NBA team's home opener combined ($1,500).

The @Phillies won Jesús Luzardo's shutout by a 1-0 score.
The last Philadelphia pitcher with a 1-0 complete game shutout win? Roy Halladay almost 15 years ago 😮

Brandon Marsh made sure to give Jesus Luzardo the ball after his first career complete game shutout.
Jesus says he will give the ball to his parents and maybe his jersey and the scorecard from the game.

Imagine going to the ballpark on Labor Day ⚾
You're expecting to be out for the day, gonna grab a couple dogs and drinks and then... the game is over in 1 hour, 51 minutes — the fastest game in MLB this season.
That's what just happened in the Phillies' 1-0 win over the Braves 👏
