✨TLDR: Starting a #buildinpublic project to finish my MEng degree! Job hunting can be a pain, so is looking for an internship or even studying at university generally. Reading @AliAbdaal's Feel Good Productivity made me wonder👇

Recently, I attended an EY career event for STEM students (like me :D). Learned about their two STEM arms: 🧑‍💻 Technology Consulting 🌱 Climate Change and Sustainability Services (CCaSS) The biggest takeaway? 👇 #buildinpublic #graduatewithme

🔍 For job seekers, it liberates the restriction that you have to stay in your lane based on what you study at university. So long as you build a good portfolio and are eager to learn, your degree becomes a bonus rather than a prerequisite.

👨‍💼 For employers, it widens the talent market they can tap into for more good candidates.

Coming out of a career fair, I felt drained out. Was it because I talked to people and needed a break? Maybe ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But talking to a few juniors and a friend didn't make me feel that way. Rather, I felt refreshed to get things done. 🧵#buildinpublic #graduatewithme

Didn't they both involve talking? What makes them different? Is networking tiring because you're actively carrying yourself professionally? Like constantly putting up your best self, hoping to build a connection that benefits you? What if it doesn't have to be tiring?

This week's story at Not Alone Club is a reflection I had from networking at a few career fairs. Perhaps networking can be a fun and exciting thing to do - one that leaves you more inspired than drained out. Enjoy! notalone.club/p/did-we-misun…

Recently, I attended an open-house event by the career office in my university. Went for the free food *cough* but learned 2 things I never knew I needed👇 #buildinpublic #graduatewithme

I remember printing out this tweet by @heyeaslo and pasting it in front of my desk to get me started with building templates after my sem break began. It worked. We don’t lack motivation. We lack a practical plan and systems. #tweet100
It costs $0.00 to be a @NotionHQ Creator What's holding you back?

2. 💎 Career office at university is a hidden gem. Learned about Wilmar, a company dealing with agricultural products, e.g., palm oil, in Asia & Africa. It surprised me as when it comes to palm oil companies in Malaysia especially, one would only think about Sime Darby & KLK.

But Wilmar is also a major player (and may be offering internships too hoho). 💡 Overall lesson: I should really use the career services in university. A simple Chinese (Lunar) New Year open-house event taught me enough valuable things I never knew I needed.

Done with the resume "MVP"! Building on the thread yesterday, I noticed one thing👇 "There's a similarity between resume writing & entrepreneurship -- knowing what your customers want." #buildinpublic #graduatewithme xitter.cf/thomasforearth/status/…
Spent yesterday trimming my resume into 1 page for conciseness. It was tough. I knew I was doing something wrong. Then I watched Jeff Su's video on resume mistakes, and this part got me👇 #buildinpublic #graduatewithme

In this case, the "customers" are the job recruiters. Sure, it's nice to fit as much as possible in the product (resume), hoping they know how good it is and how good you are. And buy it. But no matter how good a pen is, it's pointless if they don't need it.
