Oddly enough, as an Eastern Orthodox Christian, with a more traditional theology than Talarico, I agreed with every word of this. I'm kind of stunned by Talarico's theological sophistication, even though I disagree with him on many things.
One of the more exciting parts of this election - among many - is the return of a religious left.

Stratospheric level of journalism here. I mean the fact that she just called and the fact he actually picked up and gave a decent interview. These guys are at a different level I guess.
“I don’t want to be just sitting there for two years vetoing everything.” President Donald Trump picked up a call from @DashaBurns on POLITICO Elections Live and talked to us about the blue wave and how he’s willing to work with incoming congressional Democrats.  Watch live now: politi.co/4AgCofb

Dating discourse has it that most romantic problems can be solved by simply being normal and actually liking members of the sex you're trying to date. The same lesson likely applies in politics: if you're normal and actually like your voters, you can beat most current weirdos.
Scott Colom is poised to do the impossible: flip Mississippi blue. He’ll be the first Black U.S. senator from Mississippi since Reconstruction. And when he does, it will be because of conversations like this. Going to MAGA rallies and talking to voters in line.

It’s going to be two more years of 700-word Truth posts, the Arch, the ballroom, and new names for rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water. Then he’ll just go. An 82yo pants shitter who nobody likes or wants around for speeches or rallies. In the early 2030s, he dies. That’s it.

Fox and Friends hosts desperately try to get President Donald Trump off the phone as he rants and raves about Sean Hannity's income. "Oh my gosh," Lawrence Jones mutters.

I also really dislike the potential for such technology to pick up private conversations. We teach lots of students from countries under dictatorships and there are human rights issues here.
Colleagues at the University of Lincoln are right to fight against compulsory lecture recordings, and I wish we’d done it. The whole point of campus-based education is interaction with real human beings, in person and in real time. It’s simply irreplaceable.

I do wonder if sending all the racists and lunatics into Reform opens up space for the Conservative to be a moderate centre ground party. Esp in our generally split low % share and turnout elections.

This might well rank as the most tone deaf speech ever delivered by a president on the eve of an election. Or maybe the most tone deaf speech a president has ever delivered full stop.
Trump talking about the Arch, the garden of statues, a golf course renovation ("It's going to be built to the highest standards of golf and it'll be unbelievable...we're going to give a discount to people that live in Washington, D.C.")

We are getting contacted by companies that want to buy the rights to our internal operational and workflow data, including internal emails. We of course aren't going to do this, even though the offer is on its face quite lucrative, because I have no interest in helping build a future in which humans become not much more than sources of data, and maybe eventually not even that. I'm not anti-AI by any stretch, but selling a large corpus of data on how experienced and knowledgeable people think, communicate, make decisions, etc internal to organizations and in private, trusted groups so that machines can replicate those activities crosses a line for me. I hope the rest of you business owners share this conviction. Like and repost if you do.

If confirmed, it would seem this qualifies for immediate impeachment and removal from office.
🚨 Rep. Jim Himes reveals lawmakers have WAR-GAMED a scenario in which Trump claims Russia or Iran hacked the midterms, then orders federal agents to seize voting machines. Himes says they've prepared for exactly this kind of potential Election Day interference.

Most non-academics assume that our job prospects are like those of doctors or lawyers. Yet (napkin math) there are likely a similar number of tenure track political theorists in the United States as there are active NFL and NBA players.
I think this is something non-academics don't comprehend about the academic job market. We're more like classical musicians or professional athletes in our job opportunities.
