The two Sacred Trees, one in the Azure World and the other deep beneath Valdir, were once a single tree. For countless years, the Nine-Tailed Fox lived in the Azure World, sensing the sorrow, confusion, wishes, and memories carried within human hearts. Over time, those emotions became part of the Fox itself. The Sacred Tree beneath Valdir had survived by feeding on people’s memories and emotions. But as that source of sustenance began to fade, it reached out to the Sacred Tree in the Azure World, which shared the same roots, in order to survive. Through that connection, the Nine-Tailed Fox—who had accumulated countless emotions over many years—was drawn into a “Rift.” After falling through an endless spiral-like dimension, it arrived at an underground lake hidden deep beneath Valdir. In order to survive, the Sacred Tree absorbed the memories and emotions stored within the Fox. Because of this, the Fox’s right eye turned gold, and through that eye it could no longer sense the hearts of others. Only its azure left eye still retained that ability. Even so, the Fox did not hate the Sacred Tree. It understood that the tree had done what it had to do in order to survive. Within its branches now remained the sorrow, wishes, and traces of the lives of the people the Fox had watched over for so many years. The Nine-Tailed Fox chose to remain in this place, protecting the Sacred Tree and the countless memories that still lived within it. And now, when someone raises a blade against the Sacred Tree, the Nine-Tailed Fox quietly steps forward and stands in their way.
