NDS2 🇿🇼 MUSUMA-1: ADVANCING ZIMBABWE’S ENERGY AMBITION UNDER NDS2 AND VISION 2030
Invictus Energy (ASX: IVZ / VFEX: INV) is advancing preparations for the Musuma-1 exploration well in Zimbabwe’s Cabora Bassa Basin, with spudding targeted for November 2026.
🔎 KEY PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
🛢️ Prospective resources: Approximately 1.2 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gross mean unrisked gas and 73 million barrels of gross mean unrisked condensate.
📍 New exploration frontier: Located on the eastern margin of the Cabora Bassa Basin, outside the Mukuyu discovery area.
🏗️ Operational progress: Exalo Rig 202 is being mobilised from the Mukuyu-2 site to the prepared Musuma-1 wellpad.
📏 Target depth: Approximately 1,500 metres, targeting the Dande Formation.
🤝 Technical readiness: Wellhead and infrastructure preparations have been completed, with major well-services contracts, including SLB, awarded.
🇿🇼 Aligning Natural Resources with NDS2 and Vision 2030
Musuma-1 represents an opportunity to advance Zimbabwe’s broader development ambitions under National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and Vision 2030.
✅ Energy security: Successful exploration could support future domestic gas supply and help diversify Zimbabwe’s energy mix.
✅ Industrialisation and value addition: Commercially viable gas resources could create opportunities for energy-intensive industries, manufacturing and downstream processing.
✅ Investment and economic growth: Further exploration success could strengthen investor confidence and attract capital, technology and technical expertise into Zimbabwe’s energy sector.
✅ Employment and local participation: Future development could create opportunities for Zimbabwean professionals, contractors, suppliers and communities.
✅ Sustainable economic transformation: Responsible development of natural resources could contribute to economic growth, industrial competitiveness and improved livelihoods.
The Bigger Picture
Following the Mukuyu-1 and Mukuyu-2 discoveries, Musuma-1 will test whether the petroleum system extends into a new part of the Cabora Bassa Basin.
A successful result could strengthen the case for further exploration and help translate Zimbabwe’s natural-resource potential into tangible economic opportunities.
As Zimbabwe advances NDS2 and pursues its Vision 2030 aspirations, projects such as Musuma-1 highlight the importance of exploration, investment, infrastructure development and responsible resource management.
From resource potential to productive investment. From energy exploration to industrial growth. From national ambition to Vision 2030.
🇿🇼 Zimbabwe’s energy future depends on turning geological potential into commercially viable resources and lasting national value.

Inspired by President Mnangagwa, a renowned farmer, many Zimbabweans are embracing farming as a viable business, expanding production and contributing to national food security.
From smallholder farmers to large-scale commercial producers, Zimbabweans are demonstrating that agriculture is not merely a source of food, but a pathway to wealth creation, employment and rural industrialisation. Increased agricultural production also supports local industries, strengthens supply chains, creates markets for farmers and reduces dependence on food imports. @edmnangagwa @FarmingZimbabwe @MoFA_ZW

Maybe we need a minimum 5 'O' Level requirement for social media users. Some people don't realize that being a landlocked country disadvantages Zimbabwe from getting cheap internet data.
Zimbabwe imports internet bandwidth.
Because Zimbabwe is a landlocked country, it does not have direct access to subsea undersea optic fibre cables. Instead, it buys and imports international internet capacity (bandwidth) from regional transit providers and coastal neighbors, bringing data into the country primarily through overland cross-border backbones and satellite networks.

Biti vs Biti: The Former Finance Minister Who Argues With Himself
Tendai Biti says Zimbabwe's US$66 billion economy is a myth.
In a statement titled "Putting Lipstick on a Pig," he argued the figure doesn't match government revenue, electricity consumption, foreign reserves and infrastructure. His headline sum: how can revenue of about US$6.2 billion fit an economy of nearly US$66 billion?
Start with the sum itself. ZIMRA collected US$4.71 billion in the first half of 2026 alone, 16% above target, and is chasing US$9.2 billion for the year. Whatever Biti's US$6.2 billion measures, it isn't a full year's revenue. Setting a part-year tax figure against full-year GDP isn't analysis. It's arithmetic built to shock.
Then there's the bigger problem. Biti answered his own question back when he held the Treasury keys.
As Finance Minister, he insisted the size of Zimbabwe's economy was grossly understated. His evidence included a large informal sector excluded from official statistics.
That is exactly the logic behind rebasing. Untaxed informal activity explains why GDP can be large while revenue looks small. Solar-powered tuckshops and self-generating mines explain why the grid understates output. Biti knew this during the GNU. He calls it "lipstick" in 2026.
If Biti now rejects the argument he once made, he must explain what changed in the methodology, not merely who occupies Treasury. His old argument doesn't prove today's US$66 billion. But today's criticism has to survive his old argument.
The pattern is consistent. In 2018 he told Treasury "Our GDP is $13 billion. What are you smoking?" In 2021 he called the IMF itself naive and dishonest for forecasting growth. Every number that doesn't flatter his politics is fake.
Meanwhile the record keeps moving. Inflation averaged 4.2 percent in the first seven months of 2026, after 8.3% growth in 2025. And it's the IMF, not ZANU PF, that projects GDP at US$65.92 billion in 2026, placing Zimbabwe 14th in Africa.
The economy grew. Biti's argument shrank.

Drawing lessons from our partners like Russia, Africa must move away from over-reliance and instead build resilient, self-sustaining economies.

Zimbabwe is well represented at the Russia-Africa Summit
Among the delegates is the vibrant and energetic Kudakwashe Tagwirei, a businessman and patriot who understands that Zimbabwe’s future lies in strong economic partnerships and real investment, not in empty politics.
His presence shows the seriousness with which Zimbabwe is approaching this summit. We are not going to Moscow just for photos. We are going to secure deals in energy, mining, agriculture, finance and infrastructure that will create jobs and grow our economy under Vision 2030.
Dr Tagwirei’s participation alongside President @edmnangagwa’s delegation sends a clear message: Zimbabwe is open for business with Russia and with all friends of Africa who respect our sovereignty.
