I'm beginning to think Melissa reads my @barneyrednews articles.
But good on her for laying into them.
βMichael Carrick will be given time to turn things aroundβ and βthe hierarchy do not want to rush next stepsβ should be read and digested for what it really is: an indecisive club without any succession planning or contingencies because it doesnβt have clarity of identity in the first place. A club that often takes the cheap instead of the smart or right route because of the crippling Glazer debt, plus decision-makers who are never aligned - except in their own self-preservation. And it ends up costing more.
It explains the chaotic nature of lurching from one coaching philosophy to its extreme, to revisiting candidates that were on the agenda - some as far back as 2019 - that were already ruled out, to having a shortlist of options with nothing in common to take over a mishmash team that has suffered from horrid squad planning; both in incomings and exits.
Blame the players, blame the name in the dugout while the people who brought them to Manchester United, kept them, created the absolute opposite of a culture of excellence are allowed to rinse and repeat.
A day of rainbows in South Wales. I've seen at least half a dozen since getting home.
There's more than one pot of gold in the hills today.
The crowd turning on those above Michael has obviously given them pause for thought.
But there still more questions than answers.
So Michael Carrick stays for now, according to reports. Good β because he cares deeply about the Club and, whatever his limitations as a manager, Carrick is not the real problem at United. The problem patently lies in recruitment/ownership. Recruitment needs addressing with a clear-out and proper investment in players with the right character as well as the right ability (and in the right positions, starting with defence).
But the concerns are obvious. Will the players who doubt him raise their game? What will happen if they surrender again, this time at Chelsea? Will Bruno Fernandes start or remain captain? Is it also simply a case of the club playing for time while they pursue potential successors?
It seems an uneasy truce, a temporary ceasefire. Let's hope the players, whatever they think of Carrick, look in the mirror, realise they are very much part of the problem, take responsibility and fight for the cause. United players owe it to the fans. #MUFC
I've just seen the news about Michael staying in charge.
I'm not sure if I'm delighted for him, or sad for him because of the amount of suffering he could go through, and abuse I'm sure he'll take.
But at least he can now focus on the games ahead.
Be it a statement of support, or the reaction we all expected after Sundays result, the fact the club has made no announcement regarding Michael is a further indication that this managerial setup is flawed.
This was a back or sack moment, and yet we've heard nothing.
I see the names of Michael's replacement are being thrown around.
Who in their right mind would take the job based on the competence and integrity of those who'll be appointing him?
The first sign of trouble and they'll drop the next man as easily as they've dropped the others.
I think I'm the only person in the history of drinking to suffer from a 2 pint hangover.
I'm working from home with a head like a bucket.
Bruno is kopping plenty for what has been seen as him throwing Michael under bus, and I get it. But don't lose focus of the fuckers who've been holding Michael by his arms and legs since the summer waiting for this bus to come past.
The club set him up to fail, don't forget that
Watching Ole suffer to the point where he looked physically ill, was one of the harders and most upsetting things I've seen at our football club. I didn't want to see the same happen to Michael, which was one of the reasons I didn't want him to get the job. But it's happening.
We all recognise by now that the 'best in class' are as fucking clueless as the last lot, but for me, what they did to Michael in the summer was the main reason they gave him the permanent job. They had no intention of pushing on, and they knew Michael wouldn't push back on them.
Is that @GNev2 smelling the coffee after finally waking up.
We've had too many days like today over the last 13 years.
Hard, dark, painful days and we haven't even found the tunnel yet, let alone the light at the end of it.
I struggle to see an end to this cycle of despair, and it's fucking heartbreaking.
What can you say after that?
I'm fucked if I know how we turn this around.
No shape and no attacking idea, no football intelligence.
We look lost. Completely lost
