I’m too old to spend 12 straight hours in the gym watching college basketball. I’m also too much of a sicko not to.

You haven’t fully lived until you’ve watched college basketball at 3am with Buzz Peterson and @RobPeterson22.

Having a tournament with my name on it at The John Carroll School, where so much of my basketball journey started, means a lot to me. I remember being a young player with big dreams, competing against great talent, and learning lessons that helped shape who I am today. This invitational is about giving the next generation of boys and girls that same opportunity to compete, grow, and believe in themselves. I’m excited to see these young athletes come together, represent their schools, and create memories that will stay with them long after the games are over. Immanuel Quickley iqinvitational.com/

My experience: The best part of being at Kentucky is the fans. Not even a question. It's why that program matters like it does. The hard part is that it's the only program with its own 24-hour news cycle and so many (sometimes anonymous) people with “inside info”. Cont…
Flashback to Coach Cal speaking on social media trolls and how they can affect athletes. "Some people out there that threw stuff at this kid, you don't know what it does.. If it were your son, how would you want him to be treated?"

Without getting into specifics, those things can affect recruitments, relationships, campus dynamics, reputations. And they did. But the fans, there’s nothing like them. Few months after we lost to St. Peter’s lines wrapped around Krogers across the state to see the team.

How you amplify fan support and filter out the other stuff, I don’t know. And, honestly, I’m glad I don’t have to figure it out. Working at Kentucky isn’t easy. But the best part is the fans.

Big takeaway from the North Carolina game last night: We need more @BradFrederick35 on college basketball broadcasts. A+++ work.

Things that are generally true about building CBB rosters: - Retention is cheaper than replacement through portal (and less risky?) - A HS player (especially early) is cheaper than a transfer - New relationships (GM/coach & agent) have an upcharge that trust can cover later

Things that can get you a discount: Relationships and Results. Relationships: They go a long way on retention and when making up small gaps in NIL offers. Trust is HUGE. Results: If you can show development and proven long-term success, you don't have to be the highest offer.

All of that to say: Yes, I absolutely believe the "Duke Discount" exists. Because we weren't the highest bidder for a single player we signed when I was at Kentucky. If you can show that pathway to NBA success and have dozens of players endorsing you, discounts are doable.

NEWS: Maryland basketball has added Kareem Watkins to their coaching staff as a graduate assistant. Watkins, a New Jersey native, played five seasons under John Calipari (four at Kentucky and one at Arkansas). He’s a former teammate of current Maryland guard DJ Wagner.

Since I have a phd in Calipari, I’ll translate: 1. The most anti-PCSA people are agents and lawyers. Why? 2. They say “what about coaches” but the players make more than nearly all coaches already - individually and collectively. 3. That gap increases under PCSA. Continued…
"I'm gonna say this, I probably shouldn't: nine of my players make more than my assistants. And the other three make more than all my staff, and we are not one of the highest payers..." John Calipari continuing his support for Protect College Sports Act while dishing out some interesting facts on his roster. #WPS Full 35-minute presser: nwahomepage.com/sports/watch…

4. I’m an outlier because I’ve been doing this 40 years and have been great at my job. 5. So why do the agents and lawyers keep saying “what about the coaches” if it’s not true? (Implying the PCSA has capped agent fees.) That’s my translation.

Chad had the biggest, kindest heart and you always felt better when you were in his presence. The true definition of “a light” in an often dark world. RIP, my brother. 💔

Chad LOVED the Cats. Would come to all of our games at Vandy and during the SEC Tournament. Usually made it to Rupp at least once. Came to Cal’s radio show. When I moved to North Carolina, I tried to recruit him by offering gear and tickets. But he couldn’t be bought. 🤣🤣🤣

With all due respect, there are a lot of you in Kentucky who should be thankful this morning that @Bradley_B_Roll, @MarkKrebsJr and I aren’t doing KSTV anymore.
