John and Christina Mayich have two requests. First, they want the world to learn more about their son, Matthew. Second, no matter where you are from or what faith you follow, say a prayer for him Video: sportsnet.ca/nhl/video/mayic… Written Story: sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/hes…

If you'e never read The Falling Man, you should do so. I post this on September 11th every year, and I find time to read it on this day every year. Still, in my eyes, the greatest piece of journalism I have ever read. esquire.com/news-politics/a4…

For those keeping score, the man belittling 🇨🇦 for saying “no thanks” is a Trump-appointed Treasury Secretary, struggling to contain bond yields, on a network that agreed to pay a $787.5M settlement for lying about 2020 election fraud, speaking to the president’s daughter in law.
Bessent compares Canada to a little dog that used to yip at his German Shepherd: This little yipping dog would just bark away… one day the German Shepherd had enough.

Journalists covering federal politics are accused of being on “the Liberal payroll” every few minutes on this site. So… 🤷‍♀️. And a key point — I’m anticipating replies —the Trudeau-era media bailout funds salaries at newspapers/web sites; broadcasters are not eligible.
Way offside, @gmacofglebe. It seems to be commonplace amongst some hyper partisan Liberals to claim or imply (as you appear to do below) that PostMedia editorial content is directed by American shareholders. Enough already. I can say as a member of the PostMedia board that there is ZERO editorial direction from the asset management firm that controls most of PM’s shares. Zero. The notion that someone at a US hedge fund is calling in editorial direction to Canadian newspapers is ridiculous. It resembles the same sort of conspiratorial thinking that has some on the paranoid right imaging that the WEF or Chinese Communist Party dictate Canadian government policy. Yes, PostMedia titles have a particular editorial perspective and voice, as do all media outlets (ever heard of the Star’s Atkinson Principles?) That’s an entirely legitimate part of a free media. PostMedia’s editorial personality long predates the current ownership structure. It’s no secret that the National Post was founded thirty years ago in part to broaden Canada’s media landscape to include more conservative / centre right voices. That’s because a large Canadian market wasn’t being reflected by what many (myself included) believed was a monolithic left-liberal media ecosystem. Liberals who really believe that “diversity is our greatest strength” should applaud, not condemn that. BTW, you impugn @terrynewman’s credibility below simply for straight up reporting of hard news, with zero commentary. Is it somehow suspect to quote verbatim the statement of a major protagonist on the largest issue of the day? I may not like or agree with Secretary Lutnick, but I sure want to know what he’s saying about us. Don’t you? To be clear, I see a lot of PostMedia commentary on this issue with which I disagree. As someone who broadly supports the government’s approach to this crisis, and who is hugely critical of the Blame Canada mentality on the hard right, I’m glad to see a diversity of views being offered in our free media.

NEW: the Ford government confirms the Ontario legislature will begin a 102-day summer break today, not returning until Oct. 27. Government house leader Steve Clark explains the province doesn’t want to interfere with the municipal elections, so they’ll return the day after.
