I am humbled by the support for my money market interest rate strategy, but to be honest, it was a proof of concept. The real value of the controller is in CDP rate management. I reviewed the leading CDP infrastructures and assessed their limitations and designed a system that I believe mitigates observed risks with the highest ROI trade-offs. The result is a fully autonomous stablecoin interest rate system that adapts in real time to optimize borrow rates without inhibiting scaling and while addressing long tail risks. The strategy can be tuned for any collateral type, and the phi-strategy concept I introduce can be developed to remove the need to tune altogether. Of course, I didn't give it all away in my research. We are developing this infrastructure at @Cod3xOrg for future implementation in our native credit layers. This seems like a good time for a thread on why applying RL to trading is hard. The settings that RL has been successful have the following properties: zero-sum, perfect simulators, (nearly) perfect information, and training on the test set. Trading has none of these properties.

Consider: UNI fee switch as a potential indicator that CB stands to win case against the SEC. Paves the way for DeFi resurgence, but also removes the “security” label overhang from tokens like SOL & MATIC. Easier for CME to list SOL, MATIC,... futures => ETFs to follow

If you want to understand how and why we build so relentlessly, these two pieces were pretty formative: a16z.com/every-company-will-… jpmorgan.com/insights/paymen… Coupled with our own experience onboarding engineers from fintech, it seems obvious to us that Web3-based solutions will slowly 'eat the world' - and we're all hungry. Our vision has always been massive in scope, but one of our biggest weaknesses early on was taking a "build it and they will come" approach. This was mostly because it worked for a while! Our understanding of how & why capital moves around had a lot of gaps, and we were too busy writing code to worry about things like marketing or business development. Being revenue-funded let these weaknesses persist until mid-2022, when they were too glaring to miss! The result of our heads-down approach was a lackluster book of business, but allowed us to establish of one of the strongest engineering firms in the industry. Over the past 3 years, our team has built a huge wealth of proprietary systems and infrastructure, with over 200 repositories of proprietary inter-operable tech. Our approach allows ultimate composability, from the client to the smart contracts. One thing you may have noticed is that we're starting to accelerate. Every new piece of technology we develop in-house allows us to configure new protocols quickly and securely. Due to our modular methodology each new development applies to every other protocol or application as well! The result is shared security, shared upgrade paths, and far more efficient expenditure at the top level. Every new project is a new team dedicated to growing the strength and density of our tech stack. An important emphasis we made in 2023 was that we don't want to be a dev shop. We've helped many teams with security, we helped build Radiant V2, and we advise a lot of builders and teams across the space, but we've never forgotten our primary mission: eating the world. This emphasis is starting to reflect in the $OATH ecosystem as it evolves into something that looks more like infrastructure than an application. Through minimal inflation and maximum reward via franchised projects like @AureliusFi, our team is treading a sustainable path forged by demand as opposed to over-incentivization. Beyond this, our cloud services project @usemoonai is moving swiftly ahead of industry standards, with more than 12 teams using it in their games, consumer applications, and bots before we've even formally hit the market. This year, whether you know or care about Moon, you'll probably be using it as we grow our network of tech into the largest and densest of any company in web3. So what the hell is the point? Weaknesses our team had early on helped to inform and develop many of our greatest strengths. We took a very uncommon path and now find ourselves in a unique position to achieve our goal of eating the world. In the meantime, we're going to keep getting better, compound our wins, and find new ways to make our users happy. It isn't easy to build in the public but we wouldn't have it any other way. Web3 is inevitable and we'll be here for it.

@letsgethai is an interesting protocol coming to Optimism that uses a PID controller to manage redemption, thus stabilizing debt value. This made me curious as I recently developed my own model for a PID controller that manages interest rates to stabilize debt value, that you can read about here: xitter.gq/crypto_yuvi/status/174… I looked through $RAI architecture (predecessor to $HAI) and $HAI docs and wanted to document some of my thoughts: Note that while I have some experience with control theory, I am by no means an expert. These observations are points of curiosity and I am happy to be corrected. I will continue to research and follow along to see how it plays out. First, they have opted to use a PI controller, making the assessment that D control might lead to too much forecasting risk. Correctly tuned Kd typically stabilizes systems more than anything, so this is a weird design choice for me and I don't fully understand it. You can suppress Kd while you tune Kp and Ki, and Kd can be super empowering for long term stability as the system scales. I noticed that they calculate a pTerm and iTerm and I'm not sure where the derivation comes from because I expected to see just see an error parameter (which would be the pTerm in this case). I haven't seen a separate iTerm calculation before so that is something I would like to learn more about. It's also interesting that they implement a leaky Integral to mitigate the integral term overpowering the proportional term. Typically an integral correction is designed to overpower the proportional gain when error is low, by design. I'm not aware of any control systems that favor proportional gain all the way to settling. I've seen leaky integrals in hydraulic applications but never for this reason, so that's cool if it works as intended. Structurally it is peculiar that they opted to use the redemption rate as the feedback signal when most CDP protocols have identified that redemption is a big UX drawback. Should I ever reach a point of integrating my control system into a debt protocol, I would prefer to focus on interest rates as it targets positions agnostically and favors liquidation, which is much more user friendly than redemptions in my opinion. A key component of my model is a basic market response, which forms its own feedback loop in the feedback path of the main loop. I think it is important because it affects the sensitivity of system response. Tuning 'in a vacuum' has merits for understanding fundamentals but in an economic context the market response rules all. I don't know if or how that has been accounted for here but I suspect some of the threat vectors explored in RAI's tune would be greatly mitigated by second order effects. Anyway I think control systems will unlock huge efficiencies in the way the entire industry handles debt so I am excited to see how $HAI goes. I have tremendous respect for their team for tackling such a challenging problem and I hope to revisit this post many moons from now as a more educated man.
i am proud to announce that i have finally built a closed loop interest-rate-price model for debt management > when price goes down, rates go up > when rates go up, price goes up > when price goes up, rates go down > when rates go down, price goes down > zero human intervention required and fully integrated logic the system can be tuned to any market, from DeFi CDPs, to global financial systems it has taken me a long time, and it still needs a ton of development, back testing, tuning, the works but this is a really cool system that can apply to any reference price (doesn't have to peg to $1), and any reference rate (whatever suits the product) my PID configurations and transfer functions will remain secret for now 🙏

gm, new medium article medium.com/@zeroalpha/quanti… this one is fairly technical essentially, you can pessimistically forecast liquidation unprofitability by compensating slippage by the unfavorable deviation of the liquidation return either slippage is too bad, or slippage is trending towards being too bad either way, you can catch it before it becomes a problem s/o @GranaryFinance for providing data, discussion, and support 💪

In terms of relatively low-risk I think passive CDP/UNI vault w/ the tick optimization of an active schizo & compounding emissions incentives outperforms all of the above @sommfinance but if you'r willing to put in the work & can implement robust rebal mechs, there's some crazy CDP synergy between protocols w/ the yield distro from underlying staked ETH paid out in different places. For example, between @EthosReserve @QiDaoProtocol @vestafinance & @LybraFinance Then of course, provided you've been farming @pendle_fi like a gud wassie, there's easy & consistent 10%+ yield on your LSD of choice courtesy of STIP fiscal stimulus but of course ultimately what you should really be doing is the following xitter.gq/DeHausDemon/status/166…

Step 1: Issue USD liabilities (DAI, crvUSD, MAI) against productive collateral (wstETH/sfrxETH) Step 2: Use USD liabilities to purchase more productive collateral, but this time of the semi-stable variety (plvGLP, etc..) and issue USD liabilities against it Step 3: Use USD liabilities to purchase even more productive collateral, this time of the most stable variety (gDAI, yvDAI, etc..) and issue USD liabilities against it Step 4: Use USD liabilities to purchase interest-bearing USD liabilities (eUSD) issued against non-productive collateral (ETH) Step 5: Rebalance as necessary or skip steps 2 & 3 if you're not a degen & want to minimize involvement/risk

Gm brypto nerds, Ever wondered what quantitative finance is and how it works? Well strap in, because if this knowledge bomb doesn’t get you a date then nothing will. Today we will discuss the basics of time series analysis. This is the crux of all quant work and ranges in complexity from drawing lines on a chart, to requiring significant computation. Fair warning: there will be TA jokes. To be clear, if TA helps you make decisions, then you do you. I like to joke about it. If it hurts your feelings, then maybe your TA sucks. “Time series analysis is a statistical method used to analyze and interpret data points collected over time”. Like price charts. It is used to identify patterns, trends, and underlying structures within data, studying temporal dependencies to understand how past observations can influence future outcomes. Like TA. There are 5 key components of time series analysis: 1. Trend Analysis: Examining the overall direction of the data to identify long-term patterns, such as increasing or decreasing trends. Like the silly little triangle wedge things you draw on random price charts. 2. Seasonal Analysis: Identifying recurring patterns or cycles that repeat over a fixed period, often related to seasons, months, or days. Like how the market always dumps in September, probably just because everyone thinks it will, so it does. 3. Cyclical Analysis: Identifying patterns that occur at irregular intervals, indicating longer-term economic or business cycles. Like the 4 year BTC cycle that will continue ad infinitum. 4. Noise or Random Fluctuations: Accounting for irregular and unpredictable variations in the data. Like the blatant market manipulation ruining your shorts. 5. Forecasting: Using historical data to make predictions about future values, helping in decision-making and planning. This is actually fine. Beyond the basic moving average, the most common technique is called autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA). To break it down, ‘Autoregressive’ refers to modelling the relationship between the observation and several lagged observations, essentially capturing the temporal correlation of the data. ‘Integrated’ refers to making the data ‘stationary’ by way of differencing, giving constant mean and variance over time. You could present price data as +/- change, or % change. The order of differencing changes based on the data and scope of model, and can get hectic. ‘Moving Average’ represents the residual error of the observation from an aggregation of previous observations. Financial ARIMA models are often computationally expensive and proprietary, especially if they provide a trading edge. They can also be super useful for analytical purposes like performance monitoring and yield optimization. For example, the @Reaper_Farm team employs a simple ARIMA script to monitor (and predict) the performance of strategies employed by the multi-strategy vaults. This allows for more effective allocations, giving the vaults that little bit of extra yield. The key takeaway is to think about the correlation of the variables you are modelling, and how sensitive the dependency really is. Strategy performance over time is mostly influenced by TVL, abstracting many extraneous variables by compounding into underlying assets. On the other hand, the price of your 100x gem over time is probably influenced by more than you are modelling on TradingView, so whatever lag is baked into your model probably makes it irrelevant. Sorry. Another takeaway is to consider the timeframe you are modelling. Using one year of data to predict APR over the next few hours between harvests is massive overkill. You can probably use a 7 day moving average window over thirty days of data and get a reasonable forecast. Similarly, using one week of price action to inform an entry for a long-term investment makes very little sense. What data ranges are you using, and how far are you trying to forecast? There are many questions to ponder. I hope this has been an enlightening read. With enough feedback and direction, I will gladly delve more into concepts, examples, whatever you guys and gals want to know. Let me know what your favorite indicator is in the comments below. Bonus points if you provide some analysis of why it is useful and how you use it to make a decision. I am always eager to learn from those ‘trying things in the arena’, as it were.

The question is not whether a protocol is rehypothecating your assets or not. The question is how. Every dollar you put in your bank account is rehypothecated by the bank. Banks invest, they hand out loans, and so on. While you earn 5% in a high interest savings account that requires you to top up each month, the bank is lending your money to a home buyer at 8%+ and keeping the spread. FTX 'rehypothecated' user funds, and did so very poorly. We know how that ended. You should not avoid rehypothecation. In an entropic market, it is unavoidable. You should seek to understand it. Ethos Reserve rehypothecates deposited collateral. This is not a bad thing. Ethos Reserve rehypothecates collateral to private vaults that predominantly do one thing: supply assets to lending markets to earn interest. Every time you use a lending protocol, you deposit assets and borrow assets wherever interest rates are the best. That makes sense. With Ethos, you borrow stables with zero % interest rate (0.5% issuance fee), while your assets are rehypothecated to lending markets to earn yield. Your assets go where the yield is best. The spread is not kept by the Reserve. It is returned to users as real yield to ERN stakers. That is the best lend/borrow relationship you can possibly find. This is all managed automatically by the rehypothecation engine. Ethos developers can suggest changes to strategy allocations if needed, but they cannot access user funds. This is literally as good and safe as rehypothecation gets, and more importantly, it is sustainable and can scale. Don't be afraid of rehypothecation. Understand it. @EthosReserve

We’re officially live with digit.xyz! On Digit, you can find the best yields for ERN, USDC, USDT, and DAI. You’ll also find one-click UX, apple wallet support, portfolio management tools, and more. Stay tuned for a tutorial tomorrow. Here are 9 things you need to know: 1. A significant portion of the yield on each token is #RealYield, and will build up in your position over time. This happens no matter what. 2. Each position will also grant you a certain amount of rewards on top. The rewards you receive will increase over the course of 6 months. 3. Each position is housed in an NFT, called a Relic. These Relics are tradeable, you can split and merge them, and you can withdraw at any time. 4. The Digit website has a lot of tools and features. It’s not perfect yet, so please hop into the discord or DM us with any bug reports, feature suggestions, or comments. 5. An important feature of Digit is the new user journey! Let us know how easy it was to get started and figure things out, and how we can make the onboarding process more intuitive. 6. If you add your Digit position to your apple wallet, you can see all the information about your position alongside your credit cards! The entire NFT is generated onchain, so feel free to show off to your friends. 7. The next step of our strategy is to launch Ethos Reserve V2 in early November so we can migrate $OATH staking to digit. This will be a big turning point for our ecosystem, so get excited! 8. Once OATH staking is launched on Digit, we will begin to migrate our emission tokens to $oOATH. $oOATH will allow Digit stakers to earn fees from every OATH emitted on the platform. 9. Stay tuned for a Relic marketplace and additional portfolio management and analytics tools. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy Digit and look forward to our future updates. We want Digit to be the homepage for DeFi yield, so any suggestions are welcome. Let us know what positions you’d like to see supported! And of course, join the conversation on discord.gg/OATHDeFi

Last week we talked all about OATH Chapters. The most common question we received, as you might expect, has been “wen?.” The answer? Sooner than you may think. We would like to formally introduce Aurelius – an integrated lending protocol coming soon to @0xMantle. Since May, our team has been working on creating a novel new growth strategy for the @EthosReserve protocol. Understanding that no CDP platform is a one-size fits all solution, our goal was to craft bespoke stablecoin protocols to suit individual network needs. Throughout this process, we’ve built strong relationships with many fabulous teams and worked hard to develop a product that will perfectly showcase the power of the Ethos Reserve system in its first cross-chain deployment. So what exactly is Aurelius? Aurelius is a lending platform, coming soon to the Mantle Network focused on reducing the cost of capital for #DeFi borrowers. Through Aurelius, users can do a number of things: - Borrow $AUSD interest-free with their favorite assets - Borrow assets like $USDC, $USDT, $ETH, and $MNT - Stake $AU to earn Real Yield - Earn $xAU for borrowing or providing $AUSD liquidity We’ll explore tokenomics in depth later this week, so make sure to follow @OATHFoundation! Aurelius packages the power of synthetic debt instruments and money markets into a simple and elegant solution; solving the weaknesses of each, granting a significantly lower cost of capital to the protocol, and retaining immense utility for users. Why did we choose @0xMantle? For the first OATH Chapter, our team was motivated to plant the seeds of growth on an up-and-coming blockchain. Early on in our conversations with the Mantle team, we were very impressed by their knowledge of the DeFi landscape and problems that teams and users are facing every day. Additionally, our team is impressed with Mantle’s high conviction bet on DeFi and L2 networks, and believe their long history and significant capitalization will translate into a sustainable growth of the Mantle network and technology stack. We believe that establishing Aurelius on Mantle will allow our protocol to become a staple of their DeFi ecosystem for years to come. As a grant recipient and ecosystem partner, we are especially excited to join their team at the foot of this new growth curve to begin a new Chapter of the OATH journey. This week, we will explore the mechanics, economics, and partnerships that will help to drive the growth of Aurelius. Be sure to turn @OATHFoundation notifications on and join the conversation on discord.gg/OATHDeFi to stay on top of the latest information. For more information on OATH Chapters, be sure to read our original article: oath.eco/understanding-token… You can also check out our summary of all Chapter content from last week here: xitter.gq/OATHFoundation/s…
