To have been a fly on the wall when Whistler painted Thomas Carlyle!

Had two days off work and read three books in full. It was a good run

I'd pay real money to never come across internet discourse on the Starship Troopers film and/or the Star Wars prequels ever again
Starship Troopers is the same I rewatched it recently, & enjoyed it, but it's hard to convey how amateurish it seemed, even as a teenager (even acknowledging it as parody, even in comparison with Verhoeven's other work)

My favorite part of Solaris 1972 was (of course) the floating library scene, coupled with the long takes of Bruegel's landscapes and Bach's chorale prelude.

Found a recording of Rachmaninoff playing Concerto 3 this morning and it is the only acceptable version to listen to from now on.

The "read the same books again and again" people have always been the worst. Life is too short for such things.

I don’t really care about Lindsey Graham’s proclivities, but those prostitutes should have had higher standards

Bought two books on Diego Velazquez's Las Meninas because I am intrigued by the notion of some painters revisiting the same place/subject again and again (Picasso did 58 "reinterpretations" of the painting). I see it as a predecessor to Cezanne's hills and Monet's garden

My favorite part about the 100 year old city archive footage is when ugly browns seethe about it

Just like Rembrandt is the Shakespeare of artists. These three accomplished and contributed more than countless millions to civilization
Johann Sebastian Bach is the Shakespeare of music. Best there ever was.

Solaris was a strange but overall magnificent book. I discovered 3/4 through that the Cox/Kilmartin translation was one Lem personally loathed, I'll have to read the estate's preferred translation (Johnston) eventually

Rachmaninoff Concerto 3 is a flawless, magical piece of music, I can't stop playing it.

Instagram is a porn site. I log in for five seconds and the algorithm sends me to a "Catholic" account's reel that just happens to emphasize the pseudo straight guys dumptruck ass

Ten pages of Swafford on Mahler was far superior to an entire book by Lebrecht on the subject
