Imagine taking on russian and German armies at the same time, driving them both out, and today leading the world’s security council.
This is Latvia 🇱🇻🫡
Latvia has just assumed the Presidency of the United Nations Security Council for the first time.
On this day in 1919, Latvian Colonel Krišjānis Berķis signed the order to launch a counteroffensive against German-Russian forces.
After liberating Riga, Latvian forces went on to achieve full victory in the Latvian War of Independence, securing the sovereignty of their young republic in international law.
107 years later, this now enables Latvia to take a world leading role in standing up for the sovereign rights of all nations to exist in peace and security under international law.

POV: You were born to a country wiped from maps, whose freedom was long considered a lost cause by much of the world, and you grow up to see your country assume the Presidency of the United Nations Security Council (starting midnight tonight).
Congratulations all Latvians for your long journey here.
Now more than ever, we need world leadership that stands up for international law, a better rules-based order, peace through strength, and the sovereignty of all nations.

Photo!Agriculture students at Rwenzori International University are gaining hands-on experience in the application of fertilizers and pesticides on demonstration crops at the university farm in Butsumba, Kasese.
The practical exercise, conducted today, is aimed at equipping students with the necessary knowledge and skills to apply agricultural inputs correctly as part of their training.
The exercise also provides students with an opportunity to put the theoretical knowledge acquired in class into practice, preparing them for careers in the agricultural sector.

Tas nav „Tuska veikts apvērsums”, kā daudzi mēģina to attēlot.
#Polija
Everyone is focused on Poland’s constitutional crisis, but this is larger than that. It is also about the future of the EU.
President Karol Nawrocki has refused to swear in multiple Constitutional Tribunal judges duly elected by parliament. Polish law requires the oath before the president for them to take office. The Venice Commission has advised that the president’s role is essentially ceremonial, he does not have a free hand to review or block parliamentary choices, and prolonged refusal should not prevent judges from assuming their posts. Combined with the tribunal’s PiS-aligned leadership (itself the product of earlier contested appointments) blocking the new judges, the court has been effectively paralyzed. The recent suspension of the tribunal’s president, police deployment, protests, and Nawrocki’s mid-flight return from Senegal are the latest escalation in a decade-long fight over the judiciary’s legitimacy.
This is not a “coup by Tusk,” as many try to portray it. The previous PiS governments’ overhaul of the courts was widely criticized by EU institutions and the Venice Commission for undermining independence. Tusk’s government is trying to reverse that, often forcefully and sometimes controversially. Nawrocki’s systematic refusal to complete judicial appointments continues the institutional gridlock. Both sides have politicized the courts, but the current blockage of constitutional functions falls primarily on the president’s refusal to perform a core duty.
Pro-Kremlin voices are exploiting the chaos to shift blame entirely onto the government and float Polexit. That narrative is convenient for anyone who wants a weaker, more isolated Poland. Leaving the EU would be an economic and security catastrophe, the overwhelming majority of Polish exports go to the single market, EU funds have underpinned infrastructure and growth, free movement benefits millions of Poles, and collective defense coordination is critical while Russia wages war next door and conducts hybrid operations against Polish targets. Analyses point to multi-percent GDP losses, disrupted supply chains, lost investment, higher costs, and reduced international influence. Polish foreign policy figures have correctly called Polexit a gift to the Kremlin. The EU clearly has flaws and overreaches, and debates are legitimate, but unilateral exit would leave Poland poorer, less secure, and more vulnerable precisely when the Russian threat is acute.
The real priority should be restoring a functioning constitutional order without further institutional destruction, while keeping Poland firmly in the EU and NATO framework that has delivered security and prosperity. Infighting that weakens the state and serves only those who want a divided Europe.

Conflict over Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal escalates in Warsaw: judge suspends its leadership and president cuts short Africa trip
A de facto power struggle has erupted within one of Poland’s most important state institutions in Warsaw today. For now, the outcome of this confrontation remains uncertain.
Judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska called the police to the grounds of the Constitutional Tribunal, citing a potential threat to the safety of judges and staff.
Police did not enter the building, but a significant number of officers have been deployed in the surrounding area.
Korwin-Piotrowska suspended Tribunal President Bogdan Święczkowski and his deputy, Bartłomiej Sochański, for one month, temporarily taking charge of the institution herself.
Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of the opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party, called the developments a “coup” and urged Polish President Karol Nawrocki to intervene.
Nawrocki has cut short his visit to Senegal and is returning to Poland.
The conflict stems from a deep division over the composition of the court. Donald Tusk’s government refuses to recognise the Tribunal’s rulings because of judges appointed under the previous PiS government.
Meanwhile, Nawrocki and Święczkowski refuse to recognise judges elected by the Sejm in 2026.
Korwin-Piotrowska is among them: the president refused to accept her oath of office, while Święczkowski had previously prevented her from participating in court proceedings.
