Going thru old photos: 2002 in my editor office, windows smashed second weekend in a row. I had written an editorial saying the local high school should have invested in shops, not a new theatre. #bcpoli #bced

Headline is a bit torqued. He didn’t oppose it either. Here is Doerkson’s statement: “Our government’s focus is on the project in front of us. Pacific Link has been declared in the national interest, it takes a southern route, and it will create good jobs across British Columbia.” It’s a touchy issue and if I were them I would do some engagement and pulse taking too.

The BC teachers union president issued this statement today 🥴 "I recognize that with the outcome of a Conservative government, many of us may be feeling disappointed, scared, or deeply concerned about what might come next. I know these results may be particularly concerning for Indigenous, racialized, and 2SLGBTQIA+ members. You are not alone."

My latest: there’s pain at the pump. Some of this is inescapable fallout from conflicts in the Middle East and Russia/Ukraine. But much of it is self-imposed. The clean fuel regulations cost 13.57 cents a litre for diesel and 12.24 cents a litre for gasoline. To add insult to injury, tax is charged on top of these costs. Even worse, to comply with them, refiners must blend in biofuels such as ethanol and biodiesel. Canada is not self-sufficient and imports over half of what it needs, predominantly from the US. Somehow, in the middle of a trade war and an energy crisis, it has gone unnoticed that Canada — the aspiring energy superpower — has artificially made itself dependent on the United States for fuel. nationalpost.com/opinion/can…

If the "trans gun" detail hadn't come out in U.S. Department of Justice filings, I can almost guarantee you that the RCMP never, ever would have told us.
This message hits different when you remember we're still only eight months out from a trans-identified male murdering children at a BC school using a gun decorated with trans flags.

Since many seem confused. Centre-right parties have governed BC for 52 of the past 74 years. The NDP? About 22. Whatever your political views stop acting like BC has historically been a left-wing stronghold. Perhaps get out of your bubble and talk to some other people. Because you know what it’s okay to have friends and families that share different political views from you. It’s strange that some of you don’t.

B.C.’s incoming premier Lorne Doerkson has pledged to make Jewish security a priority, including adopting the IHRA definition of antisemitism and strengthening campus protections. The election also saw three Jewish MLAs elected, two Conservatives and one NDP member. Read more: thecjn.ca/news/b-c-s-new-pre…

Here we go again — another debt fund Carney is expanding the First Nations Finance Authority’s lending authority so it can more easily lend to Indigenous special-purpose vehicles for equity stakes in major projects, typically backstopped by federal or provincial loan guarantees On top of co-developing a potential First Nations Sovereign Wealth Fund with the AFN (and the still-unlaunched national Canada Strong Fund), this creates yet another preferential financing vehicle. It is debt-based access layered onto identity-based revenue sharing, not ordinary commercial lending or equal treatment under the law The result is more parallel institutions, more government-backed leverage for one group, and more political discretion over who gets capital and on what terms. That does not speed up projects or broaden prosperity @MarkJCarney

We can't afford to wait for more harm to wild salmon before acting. The precautionary principle means preventing environmental harm, even amid scientific uncertainty. The federal government must put wild salmon first.

New poll from ResearchCo: NDP voters stayed home in mass numbers this election. @Conservative_BC won with 49K fewer votes than in 2024 election vs 273,000 fewer votes for @bcndp. Exit polls indicate @LDoerkson was a deciding factor in ppl choosing to vote Conservative. @mario_canseco researchco.ca/2026/10/26/bc-…
